Hi There, i have tried the reptaid product on my bearded dragon, this was back in July but i had no luck with the product in combating coccidia or pinworms, i had to end up going for the usual vet medication of septrin and panicure, which have cleared the parasites within the first lot of treatment, the only thing i can probably say is it might of helped but without it actually clearing the parasites completely i couldn't say. The other thing i have tried the reptaid for is as my dragon came off the medication i have given him doses of the reptaid but still again no luck at all. so i have had to go for the probiotics and ccf, to get his stomach back up and running properly which i am still in the process at this moment in time. Reptaid maybe work for one animal and be not for others, this is just a guess, as you can see in this discussion that it does work for some! but not in my case. Just thought i'd point this out cause no one else has mentioned this yet.

Thanks

If you dont mind my asking, how long did you use it for to get rid of the parasites? 10 days straight with 3 days off and another 10 days is what is suggested before determining that it will not be helpful. Reptaid is not a probiotic so it would not be something to be used (by itself) to bring your dragon back kafter a dose of prescription meds.

Hello,

There is a lot of speculation on normal levels of parasites & or worms in reptiles & mammals. It is very normal for there to be a low amount of normal flora bacteria which does include parasites & worms in their system. If they do not have enough normal flora bacteria it can throw off the balance of the GI tract leaving them with digestive issues.
I think that is possibly one of the problems today that people think that their reptiles have to be totally parasite or worm free when that is virtually impossible to have or to maintain a zero count at all times. It is not really healthy to have zero counts either as they all normally will have very low levels to help promote healthy digestion & it reduces gas & bloating just like in mammals. The bacteria help break down waste & allows it to be passed more efficiently.
Reptiles in the wild I highly doubt, are parasite free & their immune systems are probably superior to ones in captivity because they are exposed to more things & have built up a much better immunity to things than ones that are not. It is best to let their body's levels normalize whenever possible without meds or supplements to keep their GI tract from being "too clean" & unable to properly digest.
Some dragons have higher normal levels than others & that is up to the owner to determine when it should be treated or if it is causing any adverse health affects in which they should be treated. What is good for one dragon may not be good for another dragon as they all have unique chemstries just like mammals & humans.

He put weight on in the time i was using it but the parasites were still there.

This means that it did its job. Wether there were still parasites present is not the issue. The reptaid allowed the animals natural immune system to start combatting the parasites. Did you get a count from the first fecal exam and the second. Many vets that are not well versed in reptiles will think the presence of any parasites means bad. But like tracie said the presence of some parasites is a healthy thing. Its the levels that need to be kept in check. IS your dragon acting healthy now? Or is he still having problems.

Actually I have to disagree with this statement. It obviously in this case did not do the job as claimed. This is not supposed to be an appetite enhancer and to just assume because it increased his appetite that it was working isnt exactly proof of the product working.Obviously he was not parasite free until the traditional meds were introduced therefore it "failed"(simpky for lack of a better word).I do agree that some parasite count should be present(which was my initial concern that the product wipes ALL of it out) at all times but a fecal is a simple test that any vet can do and be able to tell the differance as it is rather black and white. All beardies are different and sometimes a product will work for one and not the other.I think that was the case here.Thank you Matteo for letting us know as it is very important that not only those it works for post but also for those who yield no result or negative results to post as well.

I'll agreee Vickson420 that Reptaid will work for some but certainly not for every animal. But the question does ask to be posed, just what can we be using Reptaid to do? It was originally formulated to help get rid of parasites. But we quickly found out that it works wonders to help fight and eliminate bacteriological infections like eye infections, upper respiratory infections, lip rot etc. But since its introduction many many people from various realms of the Reptile world, and literally from around the world have written to us or called about its application and use. So we can confidently say that it has sucessfully been used for
1. helping control and/or eliminate parasites
2. helping eliminate upper respiratory infection
3. helping eliminate eye infection
4. helping eliminate mouth rot
5. helping to boost the appetite
6. helping to bring an animal out of brumation
7. helping restore or boost the immune system
8. helping to restore an animals vitality after treatment with standard drugs

Reptaid is an amazing product that has done so much for so many reptiles and reptile owners. It may not work in every situation. And it may not be the desired product for everyone. some people would rather use the standard drugs. But for those who want the use the herbal alternative, Reptaid is the way to go.

Hi, the parasites were still at a moderate count which the labs and vet said that at this amount he still needed treatment, the counts were exactly the same in all 3 fecal tests i had done until this time (4th test) were it was all clear, its only been just over 3 week since his all clear, so now i am just building his system up slowly to get him back up and running again. i have been using avipro plus for probiotics and critical care formula, if there is anything else, please can you comment.

His age and size is:
10 month old
just over 16inch
370g approx at the moment

Many Thanks to all.

I've been looking at this product and Acidophilus+, but it only seems to be available from the US, and shipping to Canada is pricey. Is there a distributor in Canada?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
