Hello!

It sounds like Electra is doing well, all things considered. I have been thinking about her hoping that she is doing great!
Keep us posted on her progress. You are doing wonderful.

Hi All,

Thanks for keeping tabs on us, Esther, Tracie, AHBD, and everyone else ! Fingers crossed, Electra continues to make good progress. She had two small meals of 8-10 butterworms each, and she had another normal bowel (sorry for the TMI), and she continues to be cute as ever. Last night she wandered all over her viv, and returned to sleep in her favorite corner. She will finish her antibiotics tonight and if all continues to go well, she will have the staples in her belly removed next week. The vet is very pleased with her progress--he said it was a very tough surgery/case, and that with each passing day, her prospects for a positive long-term prognosis increase. She appears to just be walking through greens and not yet eating them, but hopefully she'll start munching them as well as her wormies.

Salsa, in the meanwhile is extremely jealous of all the attention Electra is getting, so we're trying to give her extra attention as well. Here's another shot of Electra with her happy orange colors on...

Woohoo! Today Electra moved herself onto her modified basking spot without any help for me...Now, if only she would start munching her greens....:)

Oh, that's great to hear the progress, especially with such a serious procedure/surgery. I hope she continues to improve daily, and that the prolapses will be a thing of the past. Poor thing has been through some tough circumstances and I know it's a relief for your nerves to see her eating and getting around. Good for you and her !

Hi All,

Sorry for the delayed posts. The semester starts up next week, and I've been busy with preparing my courses. Of course, the lizards have been keeping me company as I read and pare down the lists. Electra seems to be doing great (knock wood) all things considered. She has been eating more worms, and even chased her first crickets the other day. (If I knew how to post the video, I would). We're waiting until next week, when she will hopefully get her staples out. I just really wish she would start eating her greens again. The vet said she is probably just craving protein because of all the healing her body is doing...We're just glad she seems to be looking and acting like her regular, loving, beardie self.

And Salsa, Electra's sister, blackbearding at how much attention she is getting!

Hi Esther,

I went back to F/B and made the photos public, so you should be able to view them now. If not, you can also just "friend" me there. We're always posting lots of lizard pics!

Meanwhile, Electra actually scratched at the glass today. It seems she was bored of her viv without all its furniture. Even our little diva got tired of her princess pillow and wanted some "real, bona fide" basking. We put her in her window spot on a heating pad with supervision and took her outside, where she hung out in the hammock with me while I read! We are so very proud of her!

Best wishes, J

Hi all,

Well, the semester started today, and thankfully I don't teach until tomorrow, so been busy getting ready. Just wanted to let you all know that Electra continues to do well. Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts. She's been eating and moving like her ole self (knock wood). We have an appointment for her to get her staples out next Tues. afternoon. She's even gained back a lot of the weight she lost, and is now back up to 622 grams! She's been eating ravenously. We'll keep you posted!

Warmly, J

Glad to hear things turned out well! Your dragon is lucky to have such a dedicated owner.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but a possible way to prevent future prolapses is to give daily soaks (10-15 minutes) - this keeps the dragon hydrated, and keeps the urates nice and soft (and therefore less strain for a bowel movement). I often just let my dragons have a quick soak in the morning while I'm having a shower

Hello Poggvitt,
Thanks for the soak recommendation. Actually, our girls get always daily soaks and have been trained to poop in their bath!!! According to the vet, poor Electra's little ovaries were in overdrive for some unknown reason. He thinks the constant laying (5 clutches 2 years ago, 5 clutches last year, and 4 clutches this year of 29+eggs each this year) is what caused her muscles to weaken so much that they couldn't keep her insides in.... We're just really,r eally glad she is on the mend and convalescing so well. Those lizards mean the world to us :) Of course since the surgery, she hasn't been able to soak, so we spray her several times a day (and syringe drip acidophiliz) to keep her hydrated. We hope that once the staples come out she can return to her regular baths :)

Hi Jan,
Good news on Electra! So glad to hear it! Do you job share? Must be middle/high school if you're talking in semsters. We started Monday. Planned on 24, then due to cuts lost a teacher at our grade level. Now have 32 kids, and 28 copies of worksheets. :) I hope you sleep well and have a great day tomorrow!

Hooray!!!! Hip hip hooray!!!!! WE are so happy :) Today, Electra had all 13 staples removed, and the vet is very pleased with the way her wound has healed up. He said within the next year, the scar should flatten out. She had her first bath in nearly a month since she underwent the surgery. We are so very grateful and feel very blessed to get to have what we hope will be many, many more years of happiness and health with her (and her sister Salsa).

Best wishes, J

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
