We've had our first bearded dragon, Martin, for about 3 weeks. We set him up with a PowerSun UVB 100W. Over the last couple of days, I've noticed Martin tends to have one eye closed (either one), when he's not interested in something. The thread on the PowerSun problems has gotten me worried.
I've still got the box, and it's the "new" one.
Here's a couple of pictures - first, Martin - the eye towards the camera was closed until he saw me with the camera. The last couple of days he's had one eye closed quite a bit.
The enclosure - the PowerSun is in the right-hand receptacle - I've turned it off. There's no screen in between the light and the interior of the enclosure - the receptacle is mounted through a hole in the cover I made. As you can see, Martin can't get very close to the light, perhaps 14 in. The other light is a regular 40W light to get the temps up to around 105-110.
So, being new to this, I have no idea if Martin's behaviour is indicative of any problems. He seems to be doing fine otherwise. I've turned it off, and I'm going to temporarily replace it with a normal bulb. I've ordered at T-Rex bulb to replace it.
He's about 2 months old, been eating about 25 medium phoenix worms per day, seems calm, but alert. He starts to scurry around the cage when he knows it's time for food. One thing I'll add - Martin doesn't bask right under the
UVB light - he prefers the hammock, or the log, which is really a bit away from the UVB.
