Hello all,
Im concerned about my little girl Miso.
Backstory:
Miso was a very bizarre baby in the fact that she would ONLY eat salad and would not hunt or even entertain protein.
I tried roaches, locust and crickets with absolutely no response (I tried feeding in her viv and out). The most I got from her was that she ate one cricket... then decided she wasnt interested.
You put some salad down and POW its gone.
I found I had SOME luck with butterworms. I could coax her into eating 3-4 large (for her size) butterworms a day, by wiggling and jiggling them at her for about 10 minutes a piece. She would only eat the larger butters but luckily she had no bowel issues with them.
I recently found a supplier of pheonix worms (im in the UK) and to my joy she started to eat! I have her on about 20 small pheonix's a day.
Now this may not be alot to some of you but for a girl who wont eat bugs, its awesome!
She has been accepting pheonix's for 5 days in a row now.
Previous to this new feeder I (along with butterworms and salad with vitamins) I would feed her chicken and squash babyfood with calcium mixed in twice a week to keep up her protien and calcium levels.
She is very active, no stress marks, basks, eats, climbs and plays daily.
The Problem:
Due to her refusal of protein Miso has remained small. At 3+ months she is only 10.5 inches. However recently I have noticed that she is standing/walking oddly.
Miso walks with her front right foot pointing noticably inward (as apposed to her other front foot which points slightly outwards or straight forward). I was worrying that this might be the beginings of MBD?
Is this infact a hint at MBD?
Is there anything you can suggest I do?
My set up:
How old is your dragon? around 3-4 months
How long have you had your dragon? 3 months
How long is your dragon? 10.5 inches
What size enclosure do you have your dragon in? 60gallon wide vivarium
What type substrate do you have on the bottom of your tank? slate
Do you use UVB lights? yes
If so, Is it a coil, compact, fluorescent tube, or Mercury Vapor bulb? tube
What is the brand name and number of your bulb? Wattage (if MVB)? JBL Reptil-Sun
(this is a new bulb availiable in the UK from germany. I tested it with a hand-held UV output reader at the store and it was bang on what it should be. I can ofc buy another bulb if you suspect this may be the case) (Miso also gets around 3 hours a week under a MegaRay MVB stolen from Rubens viv)
How old is your UVB bulb? 3 months
How close can your dragon get to the UVB? 6 inches
Do you use a separate basking bulb? What kind and what is the wattage? Yes, 40w spotlight
What are the basking temps? 113 by noon
What is the cool side temp? 80
Do you take the temps with a stick on thermometer, a digital thermometer with a wire and a probe end or a temp gun? digital with probe
What do you feed your dragon? Pheonix worms. Salad of rocket/endive/escarole/squash/beans/blueberries
Do you use vitamin or calcium supplements? What brand(s)? How many days a week do you use each of them? Dragon Dust vits on veg twice a week. Calcium via babyfood twice a week and high calcium feeders (pheonix)
Is your dragon having regular bowel movements (poops)? daily.
Do you bath your dragon? How often? daily.
Does your dragon share an enclosure with another dragon? no.
Have you gotten a vet check and fecal done? yes when we brought her home.
So guys, once again.
Is this infact a hint at MBD?
Is there anything you can suggest I do?
