Yea she's been a trooper but definitely sulky. She takes the mixture fed by me via a syringe so I usually get her to open her mouth gently by touching around the "lips".

So you'd just recommend continuing with the diet, making sure she has good temp and UVB and just wait?

I have been giving her baths but nothing. I'll try giving her warmer baths daily and hopefully that will stimulate.

Yes, I think so. Is she moving around much at all ? If you put her on the floor [ only in a warm room, not carpeted ] will she move around ? Or if you put her out in the sun ? That might stimulate her as well.

It is hard to describe how much she moves around, but she seems to move more when she has the motivation to do so. For example she will move away from her basking area into a cooler side. When I take her out she stays pretty much in the same area except for a few simple movements. Her appendages have certainly improved in terms of the amount of movement but not by much.

The weather here in Canada can be spotty, but I will try and get her out in the sun as much as possible.

Oh, Canada. :) Well, as long as it's warm out the sun will be good for her. And if you can set a spot light in one of the rooms on the floor and place her under it that might have an effect as well.

But make the bath water warmer than usual too.

Yes, Canada :banghead:

Yea for sure I will try both and same with the baths.

Thank you for all of the help and reassurance. Hopefully she will be well soon :D

Hello,

How is Peaches doing? She is still not having regular stools?
I would be hesitant to do another enema on her though, so as not to cause any internal damage.
It sometimes takes a bit of time for the softer foods to work. What type of vegetable oil are
you using? Try the canned pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce or prune baby food. Then continue
to mix the couple of drops or so of olive or coconut oil, or other type. Just be sure it isn't any
mineral oil. As suggested, warm baths are always helpful, too.
I am glad to hear she has been improving on her mobility some. It can be a slow recovery for them
depending on the severity of it all.
That's great you have been able to take her outside, up in Canada, too!
Keep us posted on her.

Hi Tracie,

She is doing alright, could definitely be better. She is not having regular bowel movements yet, so fingers crossed that she will have one sooner rather than later.

I certainly do not want to subscribe her to another enema, and would rather help her have a natural bowel movement. I am just using 100% vegetable oil - nothing unique or different than what i would use in the kitchen. I will try one of the three you mentioned. Is there any benefit to olive oil over any other type?

Hello,

So sorry she is having so much trouble!
The olive or coconut oil have a lot of health benefits also. I would definitely prefer that she
has a more natural treatment, too. The enemas can be hard on them. Have you given the
warm baths too daily? Let her try to move around & swim to promote GI tract mobility.

Let us know how she is doing.

Certainly, I will make sure to use 100% pure olive oil from now on! I have been giving her warm baths daily, and every now and then will massage her lower abdomen. I notice that there is a bid of a harder part there, possibly the urate but I am uncertain.

Hey all,

It has been a while now and she still has not gone to the bathroom. I did notice yesterday, when I gave her a nice warm bath that she attempted to go a little but obviously did not manage to do it. :(

Should I continue feeding her the sweet potato / butternut squash / apple sauce with olive oil mixture while supplementing with calcium and just wait for her to go? I don't want to hurt her by just sitting around, but I also do not know what is best for her in this case. What do you think?

Since her enema, about a month ago. She has been fed with a syringe, and been getting the diet I mentioned above since then under the recommendations of some users that commented in this thread. There were the arguments that an enema is harmful and realistically she cannot live from one enema to another so I am not sure how to proceed. Do I just let her figure it out? Can she?

She is jus over 5 years old according to the previous owner.

When was her last poo ? has she pooed since the enema ?

If there is very little solids in her current diet , I'd expect longer intervals between poos than normal ( I consider up a 13 days between poos as relatively normal , and don't start giving olive oil unless my gang have gone 7 days between poos.).

Her last "poo" was the enema. Other than that she has not gone since before the enema. So I guess it's been about a month since the enema (her last "poo"). There is no solids in her diet, should I reintroduce some?

What exactly is in the slurry she gets right now and exactly how much does she get ? Just keep up with those for now, but add a few different things. Get a heating pad to set her on, cover with an old towel that you can throw out, set her on there with the heat pad on so it's very warm but can't burn her. That may do the trick.

If you do offer solid or live food, make it small and soft at first for sure.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
