Thanks for taking the time to post the pics of him. He's a handsome guy, had to laugh at the "beardie death glare" that he gave you when you were taking his pics, we see those glares quite often. Thanks SO much for listening to us and making those great changes.

so I got the reptisun 5.0. the temp is ten times better, too. 10 mins after i get everything set up he started walking around his cage and HE ATE on his OWN!!! :D i was crying i was sooooo happy!!! now i am watching him as i am typing and he is under the basking light and he is puffing out and he is standing tall on his front legs puffing his body, (is that normal?) JW im still going to keep a close eye on him for the next couple of days tho. just to make sure. ill let you all know!

I got chills when I read this because a few months back, we had the very same experience... and I cried... oh yes I did.

This is wonderful news!

I believe the pose you are describing (if I'm reading the description correctly) is what we call around here, "the worship sun pose" As in, "Cloudy can't be bothered at the moment, she is busy worshipping her sun."

The best,

Em

Not sure if they make coils that emit heat but you may want to refer her to this topic and let her know that coils are pretty much bad! lend her your digital thermometer to check if the temps are right. I really dont think that coils put out that much heat. Let us know.

Yes. This was my first thought as well. I'm not aware of any heat or basking light that come in the form of a coil or compact. Moreover, the household type coils are of the "energy saver" type and do not put out much heat (but are fine to use for extra light in the enclosure if needed). I would have your sister find out the exact origin of the bulb, and also gauge temps (with probe thermometer) to be sure. My feeling is, if the bulb was bought at a pet store, there is a good chance it's not a heat lamp, but a "highly suspect" UVB and therefore, should be removed. If it's a household coil, then it's not putting out much heat, only light... which is fine so long as she has another bright white heat lamp source which is providing proper temps for the enclosure.

Let us know and we'll try to guide you further. :)

And yes, do keep us posted. We LOVE pics.

The best,
Em

Well thats fine to use then just make sure she is aware that beardies need bright white light for basking suring the day so having just a CE isnt adequate for daytime basking.Thats good news that he pooped.I am happy he is doing better :D

Tammy, that's great that he ate about 30 crickets today, what a difference just a few days make. Since he responded so quickly to the new lighting, etc, that sure is a great sign, so I certainly wouldn't worry at this point.

sorry for not updating in a while i have been very busy. Casanova is doing great. he still doesnt eat like he used to but its enough for me not to worry. i think his nose might be shedding to. its getting the pale look to it. so thats also making me happy. Since he has been better i think i have been spoiling him even more then i used to and i didnt think that was possible! :) now i have a difficult time getting him back into his cage! he wants to stay out and play. i also think that that has something to do with his new buddy. Cas and my cat loves to play! yes it is supervised. but it is so cutemy cat will walk right up to Casanova face sniff it once in a while give him a kiss and then lay in front of him and roll on his back. lol silly cat! yesterday i had Cas out and he went right up to the cat and decided that his tail was a good resting spot! Cloud just continued to lay there. ill try to get a pic next time. they are a very funny pair!

i let my sis borrow my digital therm and found out that her temps are off to. so we are going to the pet store and im going to show her what she needs. (funny thing is is that she has had bearded dragons for the past 4 years and i have to tell her what they can eat and when the temp needs to be and things like that.)

i almost forgot: i showed petsmart that article about the compact lights and even tho she cant make the decision about wether they stay on shelves or not but any time some one comes in and is looking at them she tells them my story. (shes a beardie mom too) she also told me someone else came in and their beardie was going blind in one eye and finds out that she was using the same bulbs. she helped her pick out a new set up and the costumer said she was taking him to the vet to see if there is anything that they could do. :(
so in a way yes i am sad that it happened to Cas but im also glad that my situation is going to help others not make the same mistake. (atleast by me)

ill try to update sometime soon and maybe with some more pics. :D

So good to hear from you! Love to see that Cas is feeling well, and eating well... and in time, maybe eating even MORE. :D

I think it's excellent that you shared your story with PetSmart and that someone really listened to it, and is actually taking the time to caution other prospective buyers. That is a BIG thing! I tried to gently explain about compact lights to someone at PetSmart awhile back, and they just sort of gave me the "huh?" look. I'm working on a letter to Zilla (the maker of the compact that caused problems with our dragon), for all the good it will do. :dontknow: I'm going to package up the light/fixture as well and ship it back. In any case, I can't stand the sight of the thing, and I certainly don't want to pass it off to someone. Nor do I feel I should have to dispose of it. Hm, me thinks I'm feeling snippy about the whole debacle.

Thank you for the update! Can't wait to see some pics!

The best,
Em

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
