If they didn't each have small behaviors (or as I call them, personalities) why would anyone want one? I would save myself some money and buy a fish.
Actually, fish are pretty smart, especially cichlids. Mine knew when it was dinner time by constantly watching me and following me around by going to each end of the tank. I even had my Oscar trained to jump out of the water for shrimp.

I did not say beardies are stupid. Not by any means. Mine knows thongs = food as well. I have no doubt they are some what problem solving intelligent. If not, mine would not be able to jump :blob8: from the coffee table to the lamp stand to find heat ( normally knocking all in her way to the floor) lol.
Does my dragon love me? no. Does she yarn for my companionship? no. Does she get upset when i go to work? no. These are things we feel as human and some other mammals as well. Y'all don't get me wrong I love my dragon and talk to her, play with her and treat her like I would a dog. She is part of my family but I have done enough research about reptiles to understand they have vary primitive brains.

I have to disagree with part of your statement. Redrock, one morning, gave me a look that said "you're going away again :( " and I said, "yes, I go away but I come back" I could clearly see her thinking about it then she was o.k. with me going away because I would come back. Goldie looks sad lately because she wants to go outside and the times me or my husband were home to take her outside it was too cold (one Sunday am it was snowing but didn't really stick) for her to go outside. The one day it would have been warm enough we had to be gone.

Miss O was a very loving beardie and it was obvious she loved us because she knew we loved her. Not all beardies, obviously, can love and some are testier than others. We've been blessed with the loving beardies we have.

Please keep the comments in the good respects of others. As mentioned previously, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

So please, lets not stray from the topic with petty and snide remarks. Lets keep this a friendly atmosphere!

Well, my little guy is going through a semi brumation I think. He left his blankey a few minutes ago so I took him out. He immediately snuggled into me and is just laying there watching me. I tried to put him down and he dug his nails in my shirt not wanting to go down. If that's not love, then I don't know what is.

Its alright Tommie. This is certainly a controversial topic. I myself am going to but out as well, otherwise you just end up repeating things others will continually disagree with.

I don't know much about what science has found, nor how they came across the information in regards to beardies.

But I do know, that Pepper sulked for over a year while I completed secondary college - while I was too busy to give him the attention he deserved. Sure I had him out for a run when I was studying, but none the less he refused to eat anything on his own, and spent much of his time lying in a corner or on his bed. When I finished, and started to have him on my lap or hanging off my shoulder all the time again, he's started loving his food and got his confidence back.
He comes only to me - sometimes when I call, sometimes climbing my legs of his own accord... but he's never tried to climb anyone else.
When he's in bed at night, he often won't close his eyes until I come and stroke his head... He won't open his eyes again until morning.

So you tell me why he'll jump into MY arms, snuggle into MY neck, and blackbeard if I have another lizard out for attention (no, he's not agressive - never attacked another lizard in his life). Science is always making new discoveries, isn't it possible that they also make mistakes?

Y'all are to funny. Would you mind whispering to mine and tell her :D to use the toilet instead of her basking log? Lol
I would need a week with your beardie an of course the appropriate size toilet.
I only have 2 of 11 beardies that will poop in their viv's. Mine will dance like crazy if the bath doesn't come soon enough or not let out of their enclosures. When they are little they could care less about where they poop usually, however as they get older they realize they do not want to hang out with stinky poop.

Guess sometimes we all just have to agree to disagree :D
Sometimes! The world would be a boring place if we all thought, believed, and acted the same, wouldn't it? :)

Okay back to the topic....I have a little story concerning Zak-n-Wheezie and how I dealt with what I believe to be jealousy and depression. Not your normal beardies I know, but regardless they are beardies.

When Zak-n-Wheezie were only weeks old I noticed one morning that Wheezie had seemed to get progressively bumbed out. Of course at this time I had no idea that they would even survive beyond a month or if it was a health issue Wheezie was experiencing. I had a crazy idea that maybe it was because Zak was always the first one I spoke to according to Wheezie since I always called out Zak's name first. So for the entire day I called Wheezie's name out first. HuH! What do you know by the end of the day Zak was hanging his head and Wheezie's head was up high. Hmmmm.... do they have feelings? I have to believe they do regardless of the scientific blah blah blah... From that day forward we speak to them individually always switching up on who is first and have never experienced that again.

Also I would like to tell you a little story about Checkers. Checkers is the first beardie I ever hatched. He's like Frank an I's son. He has gone for a ride nearly every Saturday of his life since about 2 weeks old weather permitting he is now nearly 6. Checkers knows what day of the week is Saturday probably due to the household routines, but anyway...if he doesn't get to go on a ride due to weather or what have you he will sulk/pout the entire day and sometimes all week or until he gets a car ride. Okay so this might be more of a memory thing but why would he sulk/pout?

One other thought just popped to mind.
If beardies didn't have feelings and emotions then why to they go through relocation stress?
Why would where they live or what furniture is in their enclosure or moving to a new house with new owener's make any difference?

They are pretty observant of what is going on around them, and they do seem to recognize different people. But other reptiles, like leopard geckos, will go through relocation stress too so it isn't really unique to beardies.

I do believe that they have emotions (like I was saying in another topic like this!)... Like, there are all sort of different things that they will like and dislike, things that make them happy or upset, ect. But personally, I still don't think that they can love.
For example, my roaches like eating and they dislike being eaten, but just because they can feel these things doesn't translate to the ability for them to love. You know what I mean?

Barb, you're stories are really cute! :) Dudley hates care rides. He puffs up and flares his beard at EVERYTHING we drive by. Wink, on the other hand, loved looking out the window at everything that was going on. So all beardies definitely have different personalities.

I agree with you, Barb, on their sulking. Goldie gets sad and upset if she can't go outside every day. This last several weeks have been too cold to take her outside, especially the last two days. Saturday was a good day to take her outside but we couldn't because we had to be in Tucson (90+ miles away) for a funeral/family time, then Sunday wasn't warm enough (of course). She was more active yesterday evening tho. They do have feelings, it's just a few of us that have the ability to see their conversations.

I remember several years ago we were in Tucson and saw a breeder pair in a pet store. I asked to hold the male and when I did he gave me a look, you know the look. That look said "I'm working here and you're interfering.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
