Nim's Story - More videos and pictures.

Hi, I am the slave of six cockatiels and my new dragon Nim. I'm creating this thread to share all the cute things my little Nim does. Ive had him for eleven days now and he likes me. He warmed up to me six days after I got him. He is the smartest lizard I have ever owned. I would post pics but I'm having some trouble. I put a photo on Flickr and then do the image thing but it only flashes the pic then it disappears if anyone could help I would like that. Nim is a six inch ten gram bearded dragon. Who's favorite veggie is dandelion greens. I have an organic lawn so I get the dandelion greens from there.

I got to thinking about something. Your schedule lol is bugging me. Since beardies are not nocturnal, isnt keeping the schedule you keep, upsetting Nim's biological clock so to speak? Just something I wondered about since they are <day animals>? I know you are home schooled and keep your own schedule but, Nim needs a daytime schedule. I'm not attacking you but trying to help you and Nim even though help was not solicited. If Nim is having pooping problems, he needs his tank cleaned, he may very well have parasites from the fecal matter that is all over his tank, that soaks into repticarpet, it shows in the pictures you post that his tank is not very sanitary. Ive noticed his eyelids are drooping also which means he needs more nourishment..he may be growing long but he doesnt have the girth he needs to have. Now dont get me wrong here, I know you do the best you can. I really am not attacking you,..its just some things I have noticed that could be changed for a happier healthier dragon. Its Nims best interest I have at heart, please understand that. He needs a clean tank, better nourishment and a daytime schedule. He really needs a fecal done to determine parasites since hes never had one. I'm truely sorry if this upsets you, Im just trying to help so Nim is happier and healthier.

What nourishment could he be lacking? Yes, I know his cage needs to be cleaned. We are hopefully going to get a small roll of paper towels on Monday. Then I'll give him a clean 20 gallon and keep it very clean like I used to. Yes, I KNOW that he is living in filth. Yes, I KNOW that a 10 gallon is VERY tiny. Yes, I KNOW man nor beast can live on canned food. It's disgusting and probably has less nutrition than fresh food. I am also going to be trying other staple greens that I will get on Monday. Yes, I know he is a daytime animal. But he really seems to be doing fine with the schedule I have. I AM trying my best. When I first got him I thought we had the finances to care for a beardie. But sadly I cannot see the future and didn't know that we would be in the pickle we are now. I know you're not attacking me. I understand that you want him to live long. So do I. I pray every night that God can get us through this. And He will, I know He will and Nim will be fine. I am thinking of doing the BD.org fecal test since it is a lot cheaper than a vet visit. We just need to find the time and money to do that. There are so many 'we just's and 'I hope's in my posts. Sometimes I see Nim's tank, or see his food and think, "I am not fit to keep such a smart and beautiful creature." But then, when I take the beautiful smart creature out and the way he acts around me, I think "I am fit to have Nim. Nim and I have bonded so much that it would hurt us both to separate." I thought that pets would get used to our schedule. You could say that cockatiels are diurnal and need a day time schedule. But our birds have been following our schedule for years. They are perfectly healthy. I LOVE this creature, I am only 16 and don't make all the decisions. But mom has agreed with all that I have said. We'll work through this, Nim and I, together as one.

honestly i know you are doing your best. And in all honesty I think you and Nim belong together it shows in your posts. I just dont want to see Nim sick and you heartbroken. You know I care about you and your baby, you know that. I did not say anything to intentionally hurt you, but out of concern. Nim is like Holly's Myah..I care very much for Myah, same as I do Nim. i know things are sometimes out of our control and I know you are 16..a very sweet 16 and thats why i said something. I thought it best come from me than someone else that may have been a bit harsher or mean about it. I remember being 16, there were things I wanted, wanted to do, had a steady boyfriend, I wanted the world and wanted it right now...and in that, I made choices with my dog that hurt him,,he was malnourished, wasnt bathed..i was to busy being 16, then one day i came home and taffy was gone. Dad gave her away, I didnt have time for her. i just dont want you to experience that kind of pain.

I know you didn't mean anything harsh. And thank you for your kind words. Nim and I have just hit a low. When I had him for two months all was wonderful. Even though back then he had a Reptiglo. But lets think of the upsides, 1 he has correct UVB. 2 he is very loved and gets almost constant attention. 3 if he is malnourished it must be slight, because he has fat pads, fat legs and tail and a fat(ish) belly. 4 he does get fed a lot. 5 he is well hydrated. So through these hard times I think of the positives. There are 4 positives that I can think of right now. More may come. Even though it may seem like my life is a hurricane right now, one day, if I keep up hope and prayer, the storms will stop and a large rainbow will appear. These hardships will pass, I got that hope from the concert last night. I really thank you for your worry and love for Nim. You are one of the many nice people on this site Tonja. I just need to worship and pray right now. I'll be back soon. And thank you for your words too BlueDragon. I love how kind people are on this site.

Thanks everybody. I feel much better now that I have taken a break. I just suddenly got this hope that this week it'll all turn out. Nim will get a bigger clean cage. We'll order roaches this Friday, he may even get some live crix along with the canned this Monday. Thank you Lara, for understanding. I didn't see your post till now, LOL. I feel this hurricane is about to pass. Another one may come along, but I'll be ready. It'll just make me stronger.

Yes, hugs don't hurt at all. Having Nim snuggle on my chest feels like a little reptilian hug. And prayers are great. I just thank Kutless for creating such wonderful music. On one of their songs, a song that I have always kept remembered is called, "I'm Still Yours", I broke down in worship. And now my soul feels refreshed. LOL, I feel like going to bed now that I am rested. I love this feeling of peace. Again, thank you all for your prayers and words, I'm glad Nim and I are supported by such great people. :mrgreen:

Hello everybody, I feel much better after a good night's sleep. I took Nim out for a bath before breakfast. Then I gave him a breakfast of dandelion greens and canned crickets. Here is something very weird that happened. When I had Nim out his eyelids looked less droopy. I could've sworn they weren't like that last night. Now, I'm sort of ashamed to admit that his diet hasn't changed. Except for the few blueberries. I think, that God healed Nim's eyes a little. Probably to give me hope that this hurricane is ending and a rainbow will appear. No, I know God healed Nim's eyes just a little. But now, another problem has occurred. I think Nim is constipated. He pooped after breakfast. But all it was was urate and little bit of poop. I think a month ago when Nim was impacted from the bark mom got some baby food. I don't think the ingredients of one are very good and the other has vitamin C. :roll: So, here are the ingredients of the baby foods.
Baby food one. Ingredients: Water, Organic Sweet Peas, Organic Finely Ground Turkey, Organic Whole Grain Brown Rice Flour, Organic Wild Rice Flour.
I don't think the flours in this would be very good for Nim, right? Here is the other baby food.
Baby food two. Ingredients: Organic Apples, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
So which one should I trust more to help my lizard poop?

If the apples are baby applesauce, put 2 small drops of veggie oil in it and feed it to him to help him go.

So I should use the baby food applesauce instead of the other one? And we don't have veggie oil. We have coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and regular olive oil. Which should I use? Thanks for the quick reply By the way.

regular olive oil would be perfect. You can use any unsweetened applesauce..just put 2 drops in it and mix it well..and make him eat it.

Okay, I can do that. So, just to make sure I don't get this wrong, I should use two drops of olive oil in one tablespoon of baby food applesauce? Thanks for the help, I don't know what could be causing this constipation, but I'll help Nim work it through. I gotta get that disgusting cage cleaned tomorrow. Oh, and he'll love the baby food applesauce. He loved it last time.
