Yeah, I know how annoying crickets lost in the house can be. We live very close to the woods and get the occasional male field cricket. When that does happen it isn't very peaceful because one chirping cricket can get annoying. I'll admit that while I'm feeding Nim a few crickets do escape. But since they are small crickets they will probably get eaten by a spider before they get their wings. That is what they chirp with by the way. So yesterday it became hot in the house because mom turned the AC and fan off for the night before because it was cold. Well, I had the windows open for the birds and the sun shone in, of course. After a few hours I saw Nim glass dancing. Earlier than usual. So I put the thermometer probe on the basking space. It was up to 123 degrees Fahrenheit on the basking side alone  . And Nim was glass dancing on the coolest side of his cage. So I turned the fan all the way up, turned the AC up, closed the windows and turned Nim's basking light off. Then I took him out while his cage cooled. After his cage cooled down I put him back in and misted him. I took the temp again and it was normal. Another story I have to share is. So, I was out catching moths last night on the porch. Well, there were large fuzzy moths that don't fly very well because they have large bodies. Anyway after catching about, twenty something moths. I saw a stonefly right on the rail of the porch. I could've put my hand it. So I took the jar I put the moths in and went inside and turned off the porch light telling Nim that the moths I had were the only ones for tonight. After feeding him I saw something out of the corner of my eye sitting on my hair. It was a large fuzzy moth taking a rest
. I took it off my hair cracked the door open a bit and blew at the moth to get off. All it did was grip onto my finger harder. So I then coaxed it off my finger onto the porch. That worked. I love moths
they are the cutest things. Here is a stonefly picture.
It is a cousin to the dobsonfly here is a pic of that.
That is a female dobsonfly the male has long pincers that he uses to hold onto the female. I call the pincers tusks since they are similar to tusks. Another bug in the same family or subfamily it may just be a cousin, is the fishfly. Here is a picture.
All very scary insects if you ask me. I see how long this one post is so I'm wrapping it up. First I want to say that I'm glad I found this site. It is great for me to share the cuteness of my Nim with other dragon lovers. Better than annoying my family  . I can also share the immense insect intellect. Because I'm crazy about insects and Nim. Everyday I say, "I love Nim." at least once. Okay, I think I'm done with my ramblings. Bye!
