I just recently got a beardie, and since I have no knowledge of them, a friend of mine who owns one now, and owned a few before, was going to be helping me out. She sexed my beardie as a boy, but we just found out that is was a girl...She has been laying eggs like crazy, and they are almost clear, so they look ORANGE because you can see the yolk in them.

Now, I am not aware if she was EVER around a boy beardie before, so I dont know if these eggs are fertile or not. My questions are:

1. Is there a way to tell if they are fertile without having to wait 60 days?
2. If they are not fertile, how many eggs approx. will she lay?
3. How OFTEN will she be laying unfertilized eggs?
4. She has been laying between 1-3 eggs for the last few days...Is this normal for her to take a few days to lay them?

Thank you so much for anyone who gets back to me within good time! I am really worried that (formally named Butters) Betty Page could be in egg-bound trouble! (?)

This is not from personal experience but from reading on this forum. If they are fertile you will see red streaks, like blood vessels within a day or two. The other questions I can't answer.

Oh, yes. Some beardies have layed several infertile clutches in a season. I think Sweetie has done 7 clutches since waking up from bumation in the spring.

well thank you for at least answering one questions... My husband and could not figure out why **HE** was freaking out with the digging and pacing until I started calling vets... But i just wanted to find out a little more information from someone who has actually gone through it...Can they become egg-bound during infertile laying as well?

Its surely possible for a female to become eggbound, but I haven't experienced this...ever. I have had a few females over time that I didn't know had infertile clutches and they dropped them right in the cage. My suggestions would be to have an egg laying container ready and if they are digging around and scratching, put them in the egg laying container.

Normally it is easy to tell the difference between a bad egg and a good one when they are laid. The infertile ones are normally soft/squishy, with the good eggs being nice and plump and firm.

As posted ....usually within a couple days you can see the red veins in the egg by candling them. This should be a good indicator that it's a good egg.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
