I'm so excited I wasn't sure where to post this so if it's in the wrong area moderators, I apoligize. I got a new gecko. The man at the reptile store is pretty sure she will be female. I have no name for her yet. She's a calico leopard gecko and she's 2 mths. old. Here's some pictures of her:

This is her in her little cup I brought her home in:

Here she is exploring her tank:

Another picture of the same:

OMG she is soooo small. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy. :blob5: :blob8: I've got to come up with a name, I can't say 'Hey you' all the time. I am going to give her a couple of days to settle in. I think she is having a little relocation stress as she walks everywhere in her tank very slowly and cautiously. I'm getting mommy nerves now. I check her tank every little while to make sure she's ok and the temps are ok too. Any name suggestions would be appreciated. I have a few in mind.

How's your new baby doing? Did you come up with a name yet?

-Kaleen

Nope, no name! :banghead: She's doing wonderfully though. She's so small and I'm nervous about handling her. I'll give her a day or two more to settle in. I got to do a home makeover for her on her tank. It's rather bare. If you go here: http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=157112&start=15 and scroll towards the bottom of the page, past that first picture I posted, you can see more updated pictures. It's the second last post on the page.

very pretty! Callie maybe since its a calico? I'm not good at naming, lol none of my lizards have names yet. I have 2 baby geckos, an albino and a jungle. They are great pets. I used to keep them years ago b4 my divorce. When that all happened, I re-homed the 3 i had to my best friend, & she still has them. just make sure you do handle him/her regularly. I do every day. She had stopped handling them often, and they all turned mean and constantly bite her now every time she tries. My beardie is doing awesome but I still cant come up w/ a name after a month! :p

this lil one is tiny! it was the smallest they had, and has a sore on its back. it looks almost healed up now though, after a good shed..

Ok now I know she isn't a jungle cause she's marked differently then yours. Are they ever beautiful. I was at the reptile store and he said Enigma. I have got to look it up. Anybody else willing to take a guess as to what morph she is?? I do have a name in mind, not sure though! :D I'm thinking of 'Echo'. Kind of gender neutral. I know it's not Harry Potter but what the heck!!!!! Can I start handling her now. I've had her since Monday night??

I'm evil and I handled mine from the day I got them lol... but not for very long periods of time.. a few minutes a day. I would say yeah go for it. you've given her/him a few days to get used to it's new surroundings. Its best to try and get them to crawl into your hand, but mine dislike my hand in front of them, and squeak at me if I try. I think it intimidates them to have a huge hand in front of their face. They'll come around with consistent handling. I just scoop 'em out around the middle and let them crawl around on my hands and arms. They can be very wriggly at first... and their tail can detach... so don't approach from behind. It takes about a year for the tail to grow back semi-normal and it will always look kind of odd. I've hand fed the albino some crickets. The jungle one licks everything including me. they are very sweet. If by chance it does ever bite you, immediately cover the eyes and it will let go. (bites don't hurt, don't snap ur hand around u may hurt the gecko) Oh and as far as the "jungle" pattern, that's debatable lol I have seen different patterns described as jungle, but the owner of the local pet store specializing in reptiles (and fish) said that those displaying patterns like the one I've got are jungle. Hope that helps a lil'! u probably knew that stuff anyways though. Just the basic things I learned from the years I have kept them :)

Let me know how the handling goes! Hopefully very well!

p.s. I think Echo is a very nice name! and uhh... sunglow enigma maybe? or swirl jungle? its hard to tell because their colors can change a bit as they grow, and there seems to be mass disorganization in determining lol. I've seen many sites with incorrect labeling of the patterns which makes it hard to look up :/

Thank ks85. I got up this morning deciding I was going to handle her today and this is what greeted me.
gecko010.jpg

She had just finished a shed at the store. Now she's doing it again. Should I try to handle her while she's shedding? And I think Echo will be her name. I had to put a bigger moist hidey in her tank because she has to really struggle to get on top of the one in the picture to get to the hole. I tryed to cut a door in the side but the scissors wouldn't go through because it had a lip running around it. So now I have one that comes with our chinese food order. The round black ones. She ran right into it when I put it down

Just a question. Do they eat their shed? I went to feed her tonight and she's back to normal. :? So I look in her moist hidey and NO skin. No skin anywhere in the tank. So I can only surmize that she ate it. Just curious!!

Yep they eat their shed skin! and I never really bother mine much while shedding, but it'll be over fast. I just can't imagine they would be in too good of a mood while shedding. I'd try as soon as u think the shed is finished :)
Kristen is my name btw!

Echo finished her shed and now I have been working with her so that I can pick her up. I am happy to report my progress. See for yourselves:

She had just finished a waxworm in this picture. She had 4 crickets as well.

She settles real quick once I can scoop her up. I think she needs a little fattening up though. What do you guys think?? She looks skinny to me. Her tail isn't fat like I see in other pictures. BTW I take everything out of her tank so she can get the crickets better. She lets them come to her. The white powder on the repticarpet is calcium powder. She kind of tracks it all over her tank from the little lid I keep filled in the tank.

AWE! :) she looks great :) I don't think she's too skinny, shes just a baby still. Keep feeding her like u are and she will grow and fatten up. It takes them a while to build up the fat stores enough to plump their tail up. Glad she lets u hold her!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
