The baby food on the nose works great, one of my beardies was VERY jumpy and would not let you near him to feed, refused to eat crickets or greens, I was starting to freak out cause it had been a very long time since I had actually seen him eat.

I bought one of those things you clean boogers out of a babies nose with and a few jars of baby food, squash and chicken, and even how jumpy he was he learned real quick that I was the bringer of the food, lol

The baby food feeding took about a week and he was back on crickets and greens like a good little boy

I know exactly what you mean. Im constantly on panic mode about Ruben even though he's recovering well. Remember that one day he didnt poop and I ended up sobbing to you all about how Id ruined him?
Trust me I understand

Getting her to poop will take a while. She'll be undergoing alot of relocation stress on top of being dreadfully impacted, the fact that you got a teeny poop is really encoraging at this stage. It took Ruben 4 days with me untill he forced out a horrid sandy poop, and about a month until his digestive system started to get better.
Just keep up with the baths, soft foods, apple sauce and olive oil and she will pass something for you.
Im still willing to bet my bottom dollar when she does start to poop you'll see bits of pinkies. Theres no way she's that big with such terrible care from anything else.
Alright Holly calm down. No need to hit things.

Anywho...
It sounds like they only played with her for the first week or so and got bored. She'll be completely unused to love and attention, it will happen in time, please dont worry about the bond.
Ruben is only now starting to warm to me, and he still has medium stress marks 24/7. In time he will adjust. With little ones that have been neglected we just have to try a little bit harder and be a little more patient.
Im sure you remember how viscious Dex used to be and how she turned out? ^_^

I’m so glad you got this girl! Good for you for being so persistent. I still don’t think you should have had to pay a dime for her, but I understand that sometimes that is what it takes to get them away from horrible owners. Thank you for being so selfless and paying to get this poor girl out of jail. It’s unbelievable what people will do with their animals. Just because they are domesticated does not mean that they do not have certain care requirements that would mimic what they would normally have in the wild.

Stacia is a very lucky girl to have you and I know she will pay you back with much love and respect in the near future. It will just take time, sounds to me like she just is not used to being handled , so it is scary for her. Try to remember to pick her up from the side, instead of from above, that may help a little. Soon enough, she will realize that all this time she has been entitled to a great slave like you and she will love you so much for everything you have done to help her. Take care, and keep us updated.

vickson420, I did applesauce on the nose and she sit there looking silly for 5 minutes then licked it off but didn't like it. She kept messing with the fake plant though so I brought her a leaf from my ficus plant and she took a bite and loved it. I tricked her and dipped the leaf in some butternut squash and she ate the rest!
Diane, I know I need to take it easy on the feeding but I so desperately want her to eat! Should I have avoided the ficus leaf? Annndd... yesterday I couldn't get her to eat either so I put a single wax worm on the top of her baby food and she got a couple bites out of that. At least she's getting like 3 bites a day right? I don't want to hurt her. If I could get stuff to come out the other end I would feel better about it going into the mouth!
Tatty, what is up with the burnt reptiles? I vote for harsher laws for animal abusers :!:
Shanerp69, Unfortunately, my girl doesn't seem to be too interested in the baby food thus far but I think you have a good point about being the "bringer of food". Maybe she will be less skittish towards me.

During this evenings bath, miss Stasia strained and strained and hissed and bearded and broke her mommy's heart but FINALLY passed a doopy. Sadly, it was not much bigger than the other, nickel-sized amount, but it was something. It was so precious Holly, she grabbed the edge of the tub and exhaled real loud and looked up at me all pitiful. I was happy, upset, and angry all at the same time. And not to be gross but it was like... round and fuzzy and looked like rice with yellowish chunks. What is that?
Thor's Mom, I would have paid double if that's what it took. When I saw the picture I just knew I had to have her. I hadn't planned on getting another dragon, I didn't have time for another dragon, but I just knew I was supposed to have her. And now I've made time. I am on an indefinite LOA from work.

The good news--
I was only tail-whipped 3 times today!
The bugs that were crawling all over her there have gone away since she's been in her new home.
She has been very listless laying around looking sad, not basking. But today after her doopy I caught her pressing her snout against the glass following her reflection! It wasn't a full-on glass dance, no, but it's still progress. And when she caught me looking, she'd stop, and act all casual-like.
Another sign of activity! I have been putting her up on the log because apparently no one informed her that she is semi-arboreal (jerk gave her nothing to climb). Today not only was she on the log but her chin was up! (Yes that is a big deal, it's a sign of pride. )

Can you see how much difference that toothbrush made? It's incredible!! Here's her closeup. :wink:

Ok Bad News:
Still rotten crud inside of her- massages and tummy rubs seem to be gradually helping though.
Not eating much at all. From my hands, on her snout, from a syringe, a dish, nothing.
Skin still feels rough even though bathing twice a day and misting twice a day. Should I up it?
Her front legs are bowed. I've never seen her really stand and I'm not sure she can. She kind of shuffles. I don't know how that would even happen or what I could do. But I checked her over and her muscles and joints there are in good shape.
Very Bad News:
I'm impatient when it comes to the health of my animals. :mrgreen:

Im so glad you've bonded so soon. Ruben has been going through a serious grump the last two days and has been giving me wicked stressmarks when I get him out. But dag nammit im going to make that boy love me!

I cant believe how much crud you managed to get off her skin. I thought you were going to have to wait for a shed. What a good girl she is.

Oh the poor darling, she must be having a hard time working out all that gunk. Two poops in two days is still fantastic news. She's fighting it dolce.
Round and fuzzy? Mmm I think that confirms the mice theory tbh. Poor thing must have months of mice to pass.
I know this sounds gross, but this is what i did with Ruben to understand what I was up against, when she poops scoop it out in a seethrough plastic container. Drain the rest of the water and then blast the poop hard with the tap. It will break apart her poop and let you see whats causing her difficulties. Then you can throw it away! This is how I found out Ruben was bunged up with white sand.
Id want to know if it were mice bunging her up because if so she might need a little medicinal help other than the natural remedies you are using at the moment.

awe.. she is looking better already. But we must have patience. It took some time to get into the mess she is in and it will take some time to come out of it.

I think all that bathing and misting is all you can do. I wouldn't give more baths.

I messed up big. I may have killed my dragon. You guys are going to hate me. I know I hate myself quite a bit right now. See, I told Dale the syringe I had wasn't working too well and he went grocery shopping this morning so when I woke up I found he had bought some little pipets. I woke up pretty late and thought, oh my gosh I better feed the babies, so I grabbed Stasia and made up some slurry and slurped it up in the pipet. She had a little slurry beard going on and I was getting discouraged when she finally decided to start eating, and she loved it. I was excited and tried to squirt as much down her mouth as I could and next thing I know she has bit the end of the pipet off. I grabbed a piece out of her mouth before it went down but the rest was long gone. It was only when I had that piece in my hands did I realize in my half asleep stupor that the pipet was glass. I'm freaking out. My poor darling...

Oh my how big was the piece she took?I would start right away with some olive oil and canned pumpkin to get her to going.Also keep her very hydrated.If the piece wasnt to big then hopefully she will pass it with no problems.Dont beat yourselves up we are all human and make mistakes.We all know you are doing everything you can for her right now.Try to stay calm and relax we are all pulling for her.You also want to check her poop every time she goes to see if it passes.

I will pray for you. I hope she passes it safely. It may take a week or so to get it through her system. You might want to take her to a vet for an x-ray to see where it is.

Oh dear, that must have upset you very badly. I would follow Vicky's suggestions exactly to help move it along so she can pass it.

I would suggest you get one of these big plastic medicine droppers that are used for toddlers. It makes the babyfood, etc, flow freely and easy to control the amount you use. You can find them at all drug stores. Oh my! I hope she didn't bite off too big of a piece of the pipet and will be able to pass it within the next few days.

Sometime during the summer (or maybe earlier - I have no concept of time anymore), someone else had their beardie accidentally bite off a glass medicine dropper, and luckily it had passed with the help of olive oil and canned pumpkin. Wish I could remember who that was.

Don't beat yourself up over this. You and Dale were only trying to make things easier for Stasia, and had no idea that she'd get so excited about eating that she'd bite the end of the pipet. It was an honest mistake.
