I'll have to get a copy on Friday of Xerxes blood work and post it but the vet said that Xerxes is on the lower end of the normal range of his calcium levels. His levels were at a 12 I think she said the range was 7-50. I've been giving him the liquid calcium 5 days a week since I took him in. We will be doing an x-ray Friday to see what his bones look like and then maybe change the type of calcium. He is also on metronidazole for the diarrhea for a total of 10 days. She said sometimes the calcium levels are seen with chronic diarrhea due to infection or IBS type of thing. She also said his electrolytes and I think she said potassium was low and that was to be expected with the diarrhea.
I'm at such a loss because he was doing so well despite the on and off again diarrhea and had really packed on the weight. Then he started black bearding all day but was still eating normal. So I took him in and she gave him the antibiotics which are making him feel awful. I can barely get any food into him. He will let it sit there once I have it in the sides of his mouth. I have to open his mouth with a credit card most of the time. Is there an easier way? Its taking me an hour to get anything down him and he is starting to lose weight. He just lays down on the bottom of his viv now with a black beard and is refusing all food.
