Lighting Question

I am switching from a MVB to a 24" Reptisun 10.0 bulb. What size is the bulb? T12, T10, T8, T5 etc.? I would assume T8, but couldn't find that info online. I bought one through lllreptile.

I am planning on that UVB plus two halogen bulbs for heat within her crossfire style enclosure.

while the repti-sun 10.0 is the best tube flourescent out there, it is not better than an mvb...so why the switch?

Im switching because the MVB uses alot more energy and is overheating the tank.

wow. My trex 100w is 110-112 at 12" and 80-85 on the cool side. I think you may need to just vent your enclosure a bit different. As far as the energy usage goes. i am using 113 watts of energy total for my enclosure. With the reptisun and 2 halogens you would be at that same amount, if not more. Do you have any pics of your enclosure?

I do know the megarays produce more heat than most of the other MVB's.

Do you think you could add more ventilation to your viv? I am not trying to tell you what to do here, but I used the Reptisun for years, and while it is a great uvb the megaray is so much better! Just my .02!

I am so sorry to jump in here. I noticed that you are putting in the same size Repti Sun that I am. I am trying to locate a fixture that will work with the bulb. Any suggestions? I have already been to Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart and everywhere in between. What are you using?

With the reptisun and 2 halogens you would be at that same amount, if not more.

Its probably going to be something like 80 watts. total.

Yeah, I work at Home Depot and they no longer sell fixtures in that size. I am going to grab my old flourecent fixture from when I had a 20 gallon long tank for Obie as a baby. You should be able to find one at an electrical store like Springfield Electric (thats an area store). Otherwise try local hardware stores and/or the ever so evil Petco.
