Light timing

We have a juvenile bearded dragon, Spike, in a 40 gallon tank. We have a light timer to switch his basking and UVB lights on at sunrise (roughly 7 am) and off at sunset (7 pm). However, Spike's tank is inside my son's room and my son has his room light on in the evenings until 8 pm or so. When the room light comes on, it disturbs Spike's sleep. If we were to adjust the wake cycles to 8am until 8 pm, we'd have the same problem in the morning... my son wakes at about 6:30 am and turns the room light on. Any suggestions on how to keep the proper light/dark cycles for Spike and yet allow my son to turn his lights on/off as needed?

Hello,

That is always a problem, but you should be able to remedy that. Can you cover his tank possibly to help out with the cycle?
Does he sleep out in the open or underneath something?
You could also start burrito wrapping him up in a little blankie at night for him to sleep in which would cover his head some. That would help a lot.

My son has always covered up the sides and part of the top of the tank at night with old towels so no direct light shines on his beardie.

Thanks for the advice. As to your questions, yes, Spike does sleep out in the open. He usually finds a corner of his tank and props himself up vertically in it. Where can I find some info about wrapping him in a blankie at night? We'll also see about covering the corner where he sleeps with some towels so the light won't bother him.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
