I love the mesa look. It's what I am working on for Bogie. Yours looks soooo much better than mine right now. I got it too red.

Nice Christmas decorations. How does Lelu like the tinsel? She looks so regal posing there.

Hey that's great! We saw a sight that's a "how to" on this sort of structuring, and we so wanted to make something! But then we forgot how you keep the pieces together, because you can't use glue on styrofoam, nothing works. And I have no idea where we found the site, look it up again. So I sorta forgot about it! But I see you pined it together, then I imagine that you just put the grout on over the foam and it makes all hold together huh? Did you have to use a special type of grout so it doesn't melt the styrofoam?

Actually the pins were just used to keep the foam pieces together until the glue dried. Styrofoam is hard to glue together and I had my doubts about it, so to give it a fitting chance I used little 1/4" wooden dowels, tooth pics, and used interlocking foam pieces where I could. The glue I used to glue the foam together was Foamtastic from the craft store. The pins are removed before grouting. The tile grout has no effect on the foam. The whole mess gets its final strength from the sealer (diluted elemers carpentry exterior wood glue) that I put on the grout. I use both white Styrofoam and pink Styrofoam. Pink is a lot stronger but both will work.

Sweet! Thanks for the tips! I started making mine right after my last post. I will have to go find some of that glue. The grout is really hard to get it to stick to the foam, but I have one side finished. I will prolly have to take the "shelves" off and use the glue to make them hold together better. The grout I am using is an adhesive/grout..well see. I'm so excited it is looking pretty cool! also, good to know about the sealing with elmers glue, I wondered about that. I thought humm how will I keep bacteria from soaking into the grout, if he poos on this thing. It would be a nightmare to try and clean. I don't think he'll poo on it though because he only goes on the other end of the tank, right next to the food bowl of course. But still I want to be able to wipe it clean and germ free. Thanks again so much for the tips! I'll post pics when I am finished.

I used Gorrilla glue on mine. It holds anything! You can use sand paper to rough up the foam and the grout will stick better. Mod Podge is waterproof and a safe sealer. Just a few pointers. The DIY forum has some great instructions if you need any.
