Kratos And Xerxes(even if he is a she)

We lost our little man on Friday OUTSIDE! I had let Kratos out of his cage because he was going stir crazy. He wanted to go outside...now that the weather has been nice I put him out in his cage everyday....however friday I just let him roam in the house because I was in a hurry. NOW I wish I would have taken the time to put him out in his cage. I didn't realize when I let him out that one of the kids opened on of the windows that I had taken the screens off to wash and hadn't put back on. The windows are only 11 inches from the floor and are his favorite basking spot in the house. I left him out while I ran errands because our living rooms where he roams are totally safe and there is nowhere for him to hide. When we came home my son started looking for him and we quickly realized that he had gotten out. We looked all over our back yard and went to the neighbors houses. I've talked to the neighbors behind us and on our court, I put an add on craigslist, and today I'm putting up flyers around the neighborhood. My fear is that a cat or hawk got him and I'm just worried sick. Those of you who have lost your beardies outside and found them, what were the temps outside, and how far from home did they get? Can you think of anything else that I should be doing?

Thought I'd share a pic of Kratos enjoying the outdoors today. Oddly enough if I would have taken the time to put him out in his cage in the first place he wouldn't have ended up missing. He LOVES his outdoor cage. I need to make some climbing shelves and create a better hide right now a shoe box does the trick.

Thanks, you noticed the noodles I guess they kind of stand out LOL. I like the noodles but he can't really climb to far up them without falling. :shock:

I bet you could and that he would get used to the idea. Kratos is locked in there and believe me he has his moments that he tries to get out but most of the time he is pretty relaxed. He's learned that he is safe in his cage but outside of his cage, on his leash he is a sissy!

Haha he makes a pretty big pancake for his size. He seems thin to me compared to my last guy but he can sure spread out more than Jazz ever could.

That's so cool! I want to get one of those fine screened things for Dino. We have fireflies around here. They're toxic to beardies. One and done! :shock: She's only been outside on my shoulder. Never unsupervised! Plus, we use chemicals on the lawn so no running in the grass for her either! Too risky! I wanna get one of these or something similar for her:

So she can get some fresh air and sunshine OUTSIDE!

Anyway, so happy he is home, and I am going on craigslist now to find a cage like that for outside!

Thanks Laura! I still can't believe he's home, it's such a relief.
As for a cage When you find one I think you'll love it! I was going to get a ferret townhouse for him because you can block off the levels and I want another beardie eventually. I had my parakeets in this cage, when my female Ski passed, and my mom took parker so he wouldn't be alone. I use their cage for him now.
Anyhow, I've been able to get Kratos about 4-6 hrs of natural sunlight a day because of it.

Sue, I wrote you earlier and I see that it didn't post. :? Anyhow, I saw one of those in my local pet store and they are nice and bigger than I would think just by looking at the pics. A couple things you might want to consider is how much time do you want your beardie outdoors, and can this only be hung? My goal is to have Kratos outside as much as possible so I lock the cage doors to protect him from hawks and cats. As for it being hung outside,I was wondering how it would hold up on a really breezy day. It has been unusually windy her this year which made me think about that. Just some food for thought

I saw one in the place that I got Dino from a long time ago and have wanted one ever since! I have a big light post on my deck that I can hang it from. Dino would only be out when me or the kids are. I'd be too nervous to leave her unsupervised for too long. Plus, I can see the post from my kitchen, it's right on my deck. I just want to get her some sunshine and a change of scenery...not looking to have her out for hours and hours everyday! =) Thanks for your input! Much appreciated! :wink:

Well Sue I hope you and Dino both love it and I hope you are able to get one soon because you'll love getting Dino outside! How is Dino btw I have read about Dino but wasn't putting two and two together. She sure is a trooper!!

Dino has been outside with me a couple times on my shoulder or lap and she does seem to enjoy it! Lots of lookin' around! :shock: I used to bring Spike (RIP in 2010) out on the deck with us. She was so big, she had a baby pool to swim in on hot days and she used to hang out on the lounge chair! She never tried to take off, just sat there & "lounged" like a lizard should! :wink: As soon as I get a free weekend, I am going to go get that for her! She is doing much better, thanks for asking! :wink: She's still got some marks on her face, under her eyes that were caused by the vet, actually. She thought she could slough the crust off with a Q-tip and that would be good...NOT. I'm gonna have to get those checked out. They're just not going away, scabs not falling off. I dunno, I'm skeptical about them. Other than that, she is GREAT!
