Kratos And Xerxes(even if he is a she)

We lost our little man on Friday OUTSIDE! I had let Kratos out of his cage because he was going stir crazy. He wanted to go outside...now that the weather has been nice I put him out in his cage everyday....however friday I just let him roam in the house because I was in a hurry. NOW I wish I would have taken the time to put him out in his cage. I didn't realize when I let him out that one of the kids opened on of the windows that I had taken the screens off to wash and hadn't put back on. The windows are only 11 inches from the floor and are his favorite basking spot in the house. I left him out while I ran errands because our living rooms where he roams are totally safe and there is nowhere for him to hide. When we came home my son started looking for him and we quickly realized that he had gotten out. We looked all over our back yard and went to the neighbors houses. I've talked to the neighbors behind us and on our court, I put an add on craigslist, and today I'm putting up flyers around the neighborhood. My fear is that a cat or hawk got him and I'm just worried sick. Those of you who have lost your beardies outside and found them, what were the temps outside, and how far from home did they get? Can you think of anything else that I should be doing?

Can you share the dimensions of the bird cage you use for Kratos? We have a 1 bedroom apartment and the ferret thing would be too big, but a large birdcage that could be disassembled could be perfect for Clovis! She is Miss. Sulky Spikes in her hide and I want to get her out in the sun!

Aw Sue, Spike sounds sweet! We lost Jazz last year and he was the same as Spike about just chilling out in the back yard with us. He also had a pool but never really played in it. If we turned on the sprinkler though he sure loved that, and would slither in the grass,Omg it was so funny! Its amazing and fun how different they all are! I would never bring Kratos outside without a leash, I learned my lesson real fast with that one! Do you have a leash for Dino as well? You have to post some picks when you get you mesh cage. :D

Littlebirdie our bird cage is much bigger than a ferret cage. Have you looked on Craigslist for bird or hamster cages?

Thought maybe I'd update some pics...I meant to do it the other day when I took these but I've been super busy since. He likes to take walks through the yard so we end up crawling through bushes and what not just to let him explore. My son spent the first 30 mins or so walking him and then I walked with them for probably another thirty mins and finally he decided to sun bath for more than 5 secs. The way he is constantly going on his leash i'm really surprised that he was as close to home when he was found.

Cute boys you got there! I don't have a leash for Dino. I'm really hesitant to let her down on the ground or grass as we use pesticides a lot. (I hate bugs and weeds!) Plus now that she's had mites, I'm TERRIFIED to let her down on the ground! We have lots of garter snakes around, who knows what mites they're carrying! I hold her outside. She's fine with that. 8) Maybe I should get a leash anyway just IN CASE she decides to "make a run for it" or become a "leapin' lizard"! When I get the hanging thingie, I will definitely share pics!

Omg well how many of you remember the beardie that animal control call me about while Kratos was missing....well I got the call today asking for me to take him. I said ok that I would try to place him in a new home. I really want another beardie but I have so much going on that I can't afford vet care of another pet right now.....not to mention my hubby doesn't want another animal.

The poor guy stinks so bad that I have him soaking in the bath. My goodness I have no idea where to go from here. Do I try to place him in the care of another member here or in one of the rescues near me?

I wish I could take him. If you need a fast set up, you can put him in a plastic bin or tote and he will be fine. They don't need a glass viv, really. I know how it is, though. Now he needs a UV light and a heat light and a dome and and and...

You're in Cali, right??? There's a group that does rescues on Facebook, some of them post here! Chance was one of them...Here's the FB Group link:

Here's the link to Chance's story:

Samantha is an active member, rescuing reptiles!

You're so good for taking the poor thing! :notworthy: I hope those links help you. I'm trying to remember where else I saw someone post...I think there's a thread about the rescue group on bd.org somewhere!

Thanks guys! I have a set up but no $ at this time for vet visit. I'm taking Kratos in next week and I'm expecting that to cost me around $400. I want an X-ray and fecal done. This guy has MBD...I could tell that his jaw is stiff while I syringe fed him.

Here are a couple shots of this guy.

Do you see the orange? I'm wondering what this is.....from sand maybe?

You can see the orange better here. I'm honestly surprised he weighs this much. The lady who has had him for the last few weeks is a retired zoo keeper and she has put some weight on this little guy from what I remember.

Retained shed or fungal?

Awww, he's kewwwt! That last pic looks fungul, hopefully not though. Make sure you WASH very well before handling Kratos after handling the new guy and vice versa. Don't want any cross contamination happening just in case it is fungul. :( I don't know what that orange could be, was he on colored sand? If so, why would the stain be isolated to that one spot. No clue. Unless the sand got wet and somehow only stained that area, just a guess. On the up side, he/she does have a good weight. Have they seen each other yet? Curious to how they reacted...

I was thinking fungal myself and I put some silver dine cream on him. Yes they did see each other and they don't seem to care much. He feels so light I was expecting like 450, this guy could easily be 600g

Did the lady you got him from give you any equipment to go with him??? Did you get a chance to look into the sites I posted for rescues? He's in much better shape than some of the dragons I've seen them (Reptile Rescuers of the United States) take, like Chance for example. :(

@Shannybeard,
I know, right?... the supplies only ONE beardie needs! :p

Well I have a cage and a SB MVB light. I really feel that he will need some serious vet care that I just can't afford at this time or I probably would keep him. The lady that asked me to take him didn't have extra supplies. She's a retired zoo keeper and just took him from animal control to help find a home. She called me because of the add I had in the paper for Kratos and because I hadn't been able to stop thinking about him I took him. I figured I would be able to find a home for him on her or place him in the local rescue. I just don't have any idea how good they really are.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
