Kratos And Xerxes(even if he is a she)

We lost our little man on Friday OUTSIDE! I had let Kratos out of his cage because he was going stir crazy. He wanted to go outside...now that the weather has been nice I put him out in his cage everyday....however friday I just let him roam in the house because I was in a hurry. NOW I wish I would have taken the time to put him out in his cage. I didn't realize when I let him out that one of the kids opened on of the windows that I had taken the screens off to wash and hadn't put back on. The windows are only 11 inches from the floor and are his favorite basking spot in the house. I left him out while I ran errands because our living rooms where he roams are totally safe and there is nowhere for him to hide. When we came home my son started looking for him and we quickly realized that he had gotten out. We looked all over our back yard and went to the neighbors houses. I've talked to the neighbors behind us and on our court, I put an add on craigslist, and today I'm putting up flyers around the neighborhood. My fear is that a cat or hawk got him and I'm just worried sick. Those of you who have lost your beardies outside and found them, what were the temps outside, and how far from home did they get? Can you think of anything else that I should be doing?

I just wanted to give a quick update. I had to take the little guy to the vet since he was dehydrated. Even though I'm giving baths and syringe feeding him I couldn't' keep up with his fluids. She ran a fecal as well and I should have results back by Tues i'm thinking.

Oh and she didn't feel that the spots on him were fungal. She feels they are scarring of some sort but i'm not entirely sure about that.

Kratos is also doing but I haven't been spending much time with him since Ive had to handle the other little guy so much. I just didn't want to chance anything. He's got my son so he's happy as a clam. :D

Poor dehydrated little guy! Just what you needed - a vet visit...did your hubby freak out? :? Do you have a paypal account where people can donate towards his care? I know every little bit helps, so please let us know. I hope he perks up this weekend and starts feeling more like a dragon!

Well the good news is I didn't have to pay anything for the vet and I didn't tell my hubby I took him LOL. I have a vet with a good heart! And I think he is feeling much better already but he's still a little dried out. But we shall get there.

I am so glad you wrote about his skin. I was wondering if she had said anything about it.

So glad he seems to be doing better. :D

Awww, poor little guy! I hope he starts feeling better now that he'll be nice & hydrated! Glad he's with someone who knows her beardies and could recognize the signs of his dehydration! What a great vet you have to see him free of charge! Nice to see not all vets are out to make the almighty buck and still care about the well being of all animals, great and small, and will use their knowledge and education to help save "just one"! :love5: On board with ShannyBeard...your secret is safe with me too!

Shannon and Sue, I'm so glad you gals are willing to keep my secret hehe. However, maybe my hubby wouldn't be so mad after all. Yesterday he suggested that we keep the new little guy. My oldest (who is 16) basically said that he didn't feel it was fair to take care of him, get him feeling better, and then place him in a rescue. So yesterday morning my hubby asked if I was going to let Caden keep him, that the kids all want/are attached him. I looked at him and said well thats up to you, you said we weren't getting another dragon when Kratos went MIA, so I've made arrangements to place him. He got really quiet, then about an hr later said we were going to keep him. He knows we are all getting attached to him.

My son wants to name this little guy Rupert, but I'm not a fan. I thought he was calling him Norbert LOL and I hate that also. He is starting to eat a little bit of his salads now, and LOVES any bug that is put in front of him. I let him eat as much as he wanted yesterday, he devoured 10 butters, and like 20 roaches. I don't know if I want to start him on supers or not I regret giving them to Kratos.

Kratos is really unhappy this guy has invaded his space. He saw him again yesterday and has been running around everywhere black bearding and head bobbing. My hubby gets a real kick out of that but I feel bad. Yesterday he spotted him on the patio while he was in his cage outside, He climbed up to the top and was head bobbing like a mad man. I thought for sure he was going to fall before I could get to him. I had no idea he could climb the side of his cage that high up. CRAZY dragon!

Anyhow I thought I'd share the news with you all, now that Heather and Crystal know. I know they were excited to help this little guy!

He really got busy burrowing into your husbands heart since he already owned you and the kids :laughing6:
Congrats on keeping him and lucky him for finding himself such a great forever home!

awww... they can melt a heart of stone.

it is really hard to let go of a creature you nurture back to health, you become bonded.

Thanks Amanda,
My hubby gets a kick out of the head bobbing thats for sure. He never plays with the dragons or gets them out, but he will hold them if I ask him to. How's Moya doing, any progress with egg laying today? When are you expecting the rescue with mbd?

Hooray! This is such great news. :blob8: (Rupert?? I had to LOL at that....)

So I take it you're on my side? What are your ideas for names?

Yes it is hard even if you know they will go to a good place. So it looks like I will be ordering two dragon tamers from you on payday. guess I better get to thinking on the colors. :D

Well the vet thinks he's a boy and I think he's a boy but maybe we are wrong. There HAVE be a few dragons that were sexed wrong for a long while. I'm wondering though if he was raised around other dragons. Or maybe he just isn't quite up to par just yet to care about Kratos going crazy. hmm Lucky does go better with Kratos than Rupert.

For a name idea you could name him Gideon! It means warrior. I have a dragon named Gideon with severe MBD. He gets stronger everyday. Granted, his arms will never be straight but he's a crap ton happier! And Gideon wouldnt mind if he had a dragon friend named the same name. Lol. Just my idea! Don't feel obligated to use it but I like to give names that have special meanings that go along with their personality or their stories!

Good luck with him and I'm glad you are keeping him. I know he will be just peachy living with you and your family!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
