Don't use ANY loose substrate with little ones.

Beardies in general like to lick/taste everything around them,
and little ones can be downright obsessive over it.

Walnut shells, ground wood (like the aspen substrate we use for our snakes),
sand, etc all are potentially dangerous for ANY beardie and are
especially big no-no's for little ones.

Use slate tiles, repti-carpet, or non-adhesive shelf liner if you want
something other than paper towels or newspaper.

I like the slate tiles, they are rough enough to keep sharp beardie nails filed down
naturally and they are easy to clean when poo'd on.

Any home improvement store.

I got mine from Home Depot and spent about
$30 for 2 enclosures plus a couple of spare pieces.

I would never recommend any loose substrate, it sounds silly because of where they are from but its best to be safe than sorry. i use slate substrate from lowes $8 for one enclosure

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
