Introducing new foods?

Deja only eats the organic mix of greens I've been trying to put some fruit in there like banana's, Oranges, strawberries and lately dandoline's but he won't touch his mix if those new things are in his dish. I want him to eat more mix of things besides just the greens. Summer is here and there are more things to choose from so I'm wondering what type of things work for you when you add new things for you beardy?

Ayame wont touch fruit or anything that has touched fruit...i just introduced her to squash and now she loves it..i cut some peices up and kinda wrapped her greens around it and once she tasted it she loved it and now she wants more squash than greens...lol

Thanks for replying, I will try that technique with the squash. I did just pick up some baby food organic squash and put some on his mouth. He licked it but then didn't seem intrested. I will stay putting a little on his mouth to see if he will get use to it.

oh thats gotta be aggrivation..lol..will brutus eat out of ur hand? Ayame loves to be hand fed it may help...or try different veggies and make smaller chunks, even though Ayame is an adult i still cut them into small chunks(about the size of 1 corn kernel) cuz if they are bigger she doesnt like it...hopefully someone might be able to give you more advice on the subject since i have only had one beardy and not too much trouble. I know there are alot of ppl that may say "starve" ur beardy to make it eat whatever but i dont like the sound of it bc i feel its mean and they will eat what they like when they are ready.

Oh I didn't know that. Why would he like to eat oranges if they are bad. He only had them 4 times.

He'll eat sometimes out of my hand. Definitely if there are waxworms in my palm, and occasionally when there are greens in my hand. He likes clover. But if there is anything that isn't green, white or brown, he doesn't even taste it. He just stares at it and looks at me. That must be what you're experiencing with Deja, Kasinda.

LMAO!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: . That is exactly Emmy!!! Emmy does the same thing with live feeders too. If Em doesn't want it, Em does not want it. Love that pic!!! To make matters worse, Emmy eats nothing from my hand, if it isn't moving, he/she won't touch it. I have even had to push along slow Phoenix worms, LOL. So I tried pushing small balls of veggies the same way, and NOTHING!. Ahh, what we do for our beardies.

Oh, and just an added note citrus fruits are listed on the Beautiful Dragon site as a food that can be given occasionally. So it is ok to give, it is just not a staple. The Reptaid product that everyone has heard such great things about, also contains grapefruit seed extract.

Emmy is going on two months, so quite young still. Emmy has been known to nibble a few veggies at time. Usually two to five bites one to three times a week. I am not really too concerned, my vet is more concerned than me. He says the veg is good to help keep fiber content up. He is a little concerned that all the bugs without veg may constipate Em, but I have had no problems yet. I also make sure Emmy is well hydrated with 15 minutes baths everyday.

Oh, and just an added note citrus fruits are listed on the Beautiful Dragon site as a food that can be given occasionally. So it is ok to give, it is just not a staple.

A word of caution though, even a little citrus can go a long way in a dragon. Too much Vitamin C, as it does in humans, will cause the runs (Beardie poo is icky enough without that little added dimension). I wasn't feeding it to my dragons directly, but through their live feeders. I was using oranges in my cricket bin and after about 2 weeks, my dragons started to have really loose poop. I changed the food for the crickets to carrots and lettuce and it cleared up.

Fortunately for me, none of my dragons like anything citrusy, so I can change the "occasional" to "never", but just thought I would give you a heads up what could possibly happen if you make citrus a part of your dragon's diet.
