Cute lil pooper! What is it with that age group of kids and dragons? And then us parents get all caught up and another beardie person is born! Enjoy both your kids!

That is true. Rex will be coming to my 3rd grade classroom in a week or so - I have been waiting for it to warm up a little - we've had lows in the teens in south Louisiana this past week. Anyway, my kids are so excited. We have been doing lots of research and setting up his viv at school. They have all been making their parents come in to see it and show off photos of Rex. One of my parents laughed and said, "Thanks! Do you know what you've started?". I hope I do inspire someone to experience beardies for themselves. I don't know how I went this long without one. At least I'll know that anyone who gets one because of me will have all the right knowledge from the start. :) I'm interested to see how popular beardies become once everyone at school meets Rex - you can't help but become attached very quickly.

Awww. Poor Mike :( . I just finished an internship (well not just, in November) in a 1/2/3 split. They are so much fun at that age, especially when it comes to animals. Are you having to tell him to "leave the poor guy alone so he has a chance to adjust?"

Well, Khalil wasn't very interested in crickets this evening. (Didn't eat any.) But Tom was telling me he pretty much feeds his guys in the morning, so between that and the stress, I'm not terribly surprised.

Mike is a little worried, though!

Awww...tell Mike not to worry, I'm sure Khalil will eat soon. You'll be amazed by how many crickets they can put away when they get started. Just give him some time to get settled and comfortable in his new home. Rex and I are looking forward to keeping up with his little brother. :)

Sherie, you've got to keep me updated on how it goes and what all your kids do! I'm doing the pre-student teaching internship type thing (I really don't know what to call it lol) in a 4/5 split science room. I'm hoping Lilly can come in sometime!

I will. I was going to bring him in tomorrow, but I have to go to a last minute workshop on Thursday and Friday, so I won't be at school. I didn't want to bring him in for just 3 days - I thought that might be a little stressful. Although, he really doesn't seem to get stressed much. He travelled well over Christmas and did fine in a 20 gallon long tank for that week. The kids were disappointed, but I told them I wouldn't have anyone to feed him on the days I'm not there, that I didn't want the sub to have to deal with that. They all assured me they would do it - (they do feed the gerbils and the box turtle, you know! and one of my boys has a gecko and has, according to him "experience with crickets") I explained that I was sure they would do a great job but I wanted to be able to supervise for safety's sake, and that it really was still a little too cold at night - and we don't want him to get sick. That finally did it - they agreed we should not risk his health just so they can meet him. I really am impressed with how patient they're being. I'll be sure to post and let you know how it goes the following week on Rex's first day of school. :)

Sorry Steve, I seem to have hijacked your thread.

I bumped the resource/ lesson plan thread back up so that you can update there and not hijack Steve's thread! Not that I have ANY room to talk about hijacking!

I kind of chuckled to myself when I read this because my father (who's also named Mike) gets VERY worked up when the pets don't eat. With the dogs for example, he'll start putting meats in with the food and if that don't work he breaks out the cheese. No matter how many times we tell him they'll eat when they're hungry he just refuses to accept it.

Anyway, keep up the good work with Khalil. I'm sure he'll be just fine once he settles in a bit more. :) Keep us posted (as if you wouldn't). :)

Not to get off the topic of Khalil, but this vet I was interning at told me about this guy who came in because his dog wasn't eating his dog food. So the vet asked him more about the situation and turns out this guy would offer him the dog food, and when the dog didn't eat it, the guy would cook him a steak. Heck, if I knew steak was coming I wouldn't eat the dog food either! It's funny how worked up we can get (myself included!) when our pets don't eat. Feeding our "kids" is one of the primary things we do every day to take care of them, and when they don't eat it almost feels like we somehow failed them.

But we all know that when Khalil gets adjusted he'll be spoiled rotten and will grow big and happy!

You should post more pics cuz he's a cutie. :)

Well, he's up and about. I definitely had that momentary panic when I looked in the tank just after the light went on. Despite knowing he was asleep, it's still nerve-wracking to see him lying there lifeless! We just put some fresh salad in there. It's been about an hour since he woke up. I have to drop the kids off at school now, but I'll swing back here and test out the crickets and see if he munched any salad!

We DID get our first experience yesterday with why they're called "poopers". :D

Well, no luck so far. I tried to tempt him with some tasty crickets this morning, but he was having none of it. :(

At what point do I get to panic? :D

I would guess it is just the relocation stress. Offer them again this evening after you get home from work. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Now about the picture situation here...you have posted pics of Khalil...but what about a pic with Mike holding his new beardie??? Seems like you are slacking on your beardie slave duties...
Did Mike pick out Khalil? What did he think at Tom's seeing all the beardies? I wish i lived close enough to get one of Tom's beardies...but maybe this spring when it's warmer, I can find someone to build me a "upstairs/downstairs viv and get a baby from Tom :D

I offered some more at lunch, no go. :(

I was planning on feeding him outside his viv, but with him not interested, I put a couple of them in the tank with him and left them there, on the off chance that it's ME that's the problem. He doesn't take his eyes off me the whole time I'm in the room. Maybe he'll chow down while I'm gone. Will see how things are going this evening, and perhaps a little bath. ;)

Tom e-mailed me and told me not to even worry about it until Day 4 or so. Easier said than done!

Oh yeah, I guess I will post one of Mike holding him at some point. I'm a little squirrely about posting kid pics in public places...

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
