im breeding

okay so ive researched alot and prepared nd made a website and already found people who will bguy the babys so im going ot start breeding. i bought a 10 month old 19 inches 427 gram male yellow leatherbacvk hes from red lines though. hes 50% het tranz and 66% het hypo and im breeding him with a 20 inch female i also got thats a citrus het hypo. once my first ever beardie is old enough(tiki) ill be breeding her too. shes a red orange tranz i think het hypo and ive got a white tranz male thats het hypo also. my q is, the male and female are together already. but they dont breed. he will attemp to breed with her after i take her out and put her on my desk so he can see her but not get near her and he goes NUTS then i put her bacfk in there and he tries for a minute or 2 and then they just go back to doing nothing. also my dad isd telling me that if u mix vermiculite with water it hardens like cement? isnt that bad to keep the eggs in durring incubation? thanksd ill have more qs later on. my website is not done at all i need up update the pics of my "breeders" because they shed and look better now and i need to fix some typos but heres the site

Then they're not ready to breed if they aren't doing the deed.

No vermiculite will not harden like cement when you add water to it, that's why it's recommended for egg incubation.

Well thw thing is, they try but then give up. Idk what goes on while im nit watching but he gets on her and bites her neck and bibbs his head and everything then justcstopps... both have been bred before. He seems more interesred in her wheb shes in his view but he cant get to her then i put them together and they rele go at it. Then they stop again.

maybe. i know they are old enough cuz both are proven. male was proven to be an agressive breeder. they do try but its like they get bored. as i type this ther goin at it again this time its not ending lol

It sounds like your seeing dominance behavior. I would split them up for a couple weeks and try again later.

id say the male is 11 months now. i got him a month ago but im still used to saying 10 months

the lady i got my female from(personally i cant stand the ladyill never be getting anything from her again i was horrified about how immature she was being) but she said she had her 2.5 years and shes been breeding her that she was jsut coming out of brumation last month when i got her. last night i think i had a breakthrough. they finally started doing it. for more than just a minute. the lady said shes never had the female give off a clutch less than 25. what i did last night was oput a divider in so he could see her but not get to her. then after around a half hour i took the divider out and they were at least trying to breed. i think he may have got her. they were at it for well over an hour taking small breaks in between. looked jsut like the youtube videos ive seen so im hoping she will lay eggs within the next month or so.

sorry about all the typos, i posted from my school at lunch and the keybords are horrible here. last nigt i fixed up the website a little bit, im pretty sure i found out who posted that rude and un called for comment so i just deleted it off my site. pretty sure all the typos on the site are fixed. ill post pictures here today when i get home of all them. when i started with reptiles my first was a beardie and this site was great. this was in november. im sure some of you remember my posts about wanting to get another bearded dragon but my mother wouldnt let me... well she has come a long way lol. my bedroom now has the 4 beardies, 2 adult male iguanas, male chinese water dragon, poison dart frogs, fire belly toads and albino pacman frogs me bedroom is pretty much a maze now because of al the cages. just so you guys know since i know some people that i know of already will be wantng to know if they are all healthy because i had some lady flip out on me saying i shouldnt even be alowed to own a goldfish when technically she was the one with the bad animals. i have yet to have one sick reptile and all the cages are good size. iguanas both have their own cages obviousely, they are 6 feet tall 5 feet long and 4 feet wide. water dragon has a cage 6 feet tall 5 feet long and 2.5 feet wide. pacman has a 20g long. poison darts have a zoo med cage 18x18x18 theres only a trio of dendrobates leucomelas in there. the fire belly toads have a 50g breeder. ill be posting pics but if anybody want to add me on facebook my name is Derek Baisley. there are three that comeup when you search that name. 2 of them are mine. the one im currently using is the one with a little over 100 friends not the one with over 1000, i stopped using that one. i have tons of pics of all my herps on there. sorry for the long post lol

Hey, I just checked out your website. I just wanted to let you know that the only dragon you will be able to mate your younger girl with is the male named "Sunny" since he is not visual trans. Breeding two visual trans dragons together can cause problems.

Also, since I couldn't tell in the picture whether some of them were leatherbacks or not (other than Sunny, who is) I just wanted to tell you that it's not advisable to breed two leatherbacks together unless you're ready to care for silkback dragons.

Do you have an incubator, 10-20 hatchling enclosures, 10-20 heat bulbs and lamps, UVB lights and fixtures, and enough money for 20,000-50,000 crickets weekly?

I'm a bit worried about the weights on the bigger girl. Your 20 inch girl weighs 381 grams? At 20 inches, she should weigh about 400 grams or more if you want her to be able to carry the eggs without hurting herself. Load her up with calcium and vitamins and food!!!

Wow, I have to say, your bedroom must be massive. I have my rabbit, my beardie, a 20 gal hermit crab cage, and a 15 gal aquarium in my room, and it's incredibly cramped LOL.

Please don't take this offensively, because I'm not trying to be mean or rude or anything, but I think you might be in a little over your head with trying to breed your dragons now too. I'm turning 17 in May, so I'm just a little bit older than you (You are 15, right? I think that's what I read on your profile), and you already have a LOT of responsibility for some one your age. And a lot of expenses. Maybe you should just be content with the animals you have for now, instead of getting (or creating...) even more? I mean, I know I spend hours and hours every week cleaning enclosures, making sure everyone gets their exercise, giving attention, ect. and I don't have nearly as many pets as you do.

Another thing: Who on earth is paying for all of this? Your parents? That's what I'm assuming, since its practically impossible to get a good paying job if your under 16. You have 7 lizards that need UVB lights, quite a few that need bugs, and you must go through enough produce to feed a small village.
If you add 100 or so baby beardies into that, that's thousands of crickets a week, plus all the new enclosures, PLUS more UVB and heat lights... And what if you can't find homes for all of them?

I guess that I just think you should wait. I have to pay for all of my pets, so personally, if you are having your parents pay for all of this, I think you should at least be able to be financially responsible for this before you breed. If you cant even pay for it, I think that's a red flag.
What is your purpose for breeding anyways? Will you be improving the species in any way, or is it just "for fun"?

Again, I'm not trying to be mean. Being close to your age, I know how much I can handle, and this would be WAY too much for me. :wink:
