I'm building Cori a custom tank and I need to know what paint to use for the exterior.

You can do a few different things. Acrylic paint ( the kind kindergartners use), Stain (just make sure to seal it) , Sanded grout (again sealed).
For sealers you can use Hod Podge (find it at Micheals) or Min wax poly sealer.
With the HP you just make sure it is dry, and use at least 5 coats mixed thinly at first, than thicker at the last. No worry about fumes once dried. It took about 20-40 minutes dry time on a rainy day, with a fan blowing on it for mine to dry.
With the grout, I also used the HP, dry time was over night with the fan on.
For the Min , it took 48 hours for the sealant to dry, and no fumes, again with a fan on.
