Could be a flu, or something else as well.
I have been dealing with hundreds of reptiles a day for several years with no disease issues (knock on wood)

Could be you had a bug from something before too.

I had my dragon out for about 2 hours last night and kissed him off and on, and so did my daughter and nothing is wrong with us.

If you think it's salmonella then you need to go to the doctor and get tested.

That sounds terrible. Can you make it to a doctor? Lots of things cause that type of illness so it may must be a coincidence. Its probably in your best interest to find of for certain what you have. I hope you feel better soon!!!

Please don't get too dehydrated, if you need to, better get checked out. One clue as to if it's a flu or not is whether or not the rest of the family gets it, because stomach virus is highly contagious. If your'e a healthy adult, salmonella will affect you like a very bad stomach virus [ so I've heard ] but for a baby or someone with a compromised immune system, it's much worse.that's why a baby should never be bathed in the same sink as a beardie. The bottom line, never kiss a reptile, especially on it's mouth., or anywhere else. I myself have owned reptilesfor at least 25 years, never been sick but I never, ever would kiss one....even if you yourself are strong enough to handle this illness [ if it is salmonella], the next person who thinks it's O.K. to do the same may not. Don't kiss after bathing the dragon either, because the germs are all through the water the dragon is sitting in, especially after they go poo in it. Not meant as a lecture, but reptiles do carry salmonella, so why take the chance ? I do hope you feel better ! Get lots to drink....keep some crackers and ginger ale on hand, and please go to the hospital if you get worse ! Well, I never thought I'd be dishing out medical advice to a human on these forums....please get better !

You know how people on here are always recommending Pedialyte for sickly beardies?

Try to drink some yourself, if you can. It helps if you can't keep anything else down.

Hope you feel better soon, whatever it is! If you do suspect salmonella, probably best to get tested, so that, if necessary, they can try to trace the source of it - might not be your beardie. Could be, but isn't automatically. And the health department likes to track things like that, so they can get back to the source and make sure others aren't going to get sick, as well. If it's your beardie, they won't worry about it any further, but there are all sorts of ways salmonella can spread.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. :(
It is more than likely coincidental that you got ill after kissing your beardie. If you get worse and/or are worried this is what it is, please see a doctor.
Hope you are just fighting a common stomach virus and get to feeling better soon.
As AHBD mentioned..... PLENTY OF FLUIDS!!!!

Well I took a pregnancy test just incase and it was negative ... lol I've missed a couple times of washing my hands but then would do it as soon as i noticed it, I've kissed him on the lips twice (once after his bath), not sure if its really salmnolla but no one else in the family is sick and i've been home all week with no visitors. I have ALL the symptoms of salmonilla too. I looked it up and it said that if i go to the doctor theres nothing they can do about it anyways... theyll just make sure i'll drink alot of fluids

I believe I read that of all reptiles, beardies are actually the least likely to give you salmonella. But I guess it still could happen. Are you able to get fluids and keep them down?

Well i'm up for the second time today ... lol I've slept all day but i have to stop in to talk to you guys and let you know how i'm doing. I've come to the conclusion that I think its the 24 hour stomach flu (at least I hope). Although I dont think I have salmonilla entirely, the possibility is still lingering in my mind. I've been drinking gatoraide all day but havn't ate a bite because i've been sleeping. I figured if it was a virus or salmonilla it wouldn't make a difference if I went to the Doctor because they wouldn't be able to give me anything for it lol... I imagine i'll be on the computer later on tonight since i slept all day I probably wont be able to sleep tonight. Might have to go buy some niquill to get me through the night. So far I havn't taken a thing for it though. Just lettin my body do the work(hopefully)

Thanks for everyones support and advice- Stephani and Bud the baby bearded dragon

I have had marv my BD for years and have always kissed him goodnight ect (i know im sad) iv never had anything from BD contact, one time he was sat on my chest and i kissed him on the lips and he did the beardy lick and got me on the lip and still didnt catch anything, i think the risk of salmonella is generaly over exaggerated, just my opinion

It's probably just a bug, I mean there is a chance. I kiss my beardies all the time because they're just so cute. I've been sick once since I got them and it was a 24h bug and let me tell you it was NOT pleasant. I drank about 14 glasses of water just so there'd be something in my stomach so I wouldn't be dry heaving, I've never felt so miserable.

If anyone does suspect they have salmonella, however, it really does need to be reported - as you cannot know it came from your beardie, best to report it (especially if you've eaten out), to prevent potential outbreaks in more vulnerable individuals. You'll need to be tested to confirm the diagnosis, and then they'll have to try to work out where you got it.

http://www.healthyms.com/msdhsite/index.cfm/14,877,194,pdf/ReportableDiseasesList.pdf: salmonellosis should be reported within one week of diagnosis. (See Class 2 on the list.)

That's obviously for the state of MS, so check your own state guidelines (on the Health Department website) for applicable information. Potentially life-threatening infectious diseases shouldn't be taken lightly, even if it's not a threat to your own life.

(This is a general post, not directed at the OP - doesn't sound like you've got it! Just mentioning this for future reference. I'm glad you're starting to feel better; stomach bugs are absolutely miserable!)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
