I found a beardie and tank in dumpster ! HELP !!

I just found this and read your original post to my husband. He was soo upset, I've never seen him that upset. Most people would throw the beardie away and keep the tank for resale. You are lucky that you found him with such a good tank. That's a size I'd like, but finding one around here is almost impossible.

It sounds like he's bonding with you, if he crawled on you after sleeping with you for awhile. I agree, wait on the protein. I remember reading that you could start him with baby food and then go with the protein baby food after a few days. Tracie (drache613) and diamc would be good to ask info about him. If I were you, I would talk to Bob and reptileuv.com. As suggested above, you could use a megaray on him. That would be the best with the size of tank you have for him. If you don't have a drop light that will handle it, we found one at Home Depot for about $15, more or less. It's terrific it's a ceramic fixture and is rated for 300 watts.

Yeah when I first saw the tank .. in my mind I was like "JACKPOT !" lol... since MJ is only in a 40 gal, and as you say, finding anything bigger is nearly impossible unless you custom build it yourself. When I got closer thats when I realized something was moving

OMG! poor little thing! people are so sick!. good luck with the poor little guy. i have to agree about the baby food that would also help him poop too. i know buying a mega ray from bob at reptile uv is so much cheaper then getting a mvb bulb at a petstore i just ordered one from reptileuv and it was around $55 with shipping a reptisun tube bulb you can get at pet mountain for $19+ shipping but unless he can get within a certain range of the bulb the reptisun wont do you any good

Wow, that's crazy, some people are so sick... But if you really think about it, this is one very, very lucky beardie -- because he was found by you!! I mean, what are the chances? Those people must have driven at least a few blocks from their place (I don't think they want their neighbors to see them dumping a living animal), spotted a good-sized dumpster and decided to pull up, not knowing a beardie lover (you) lives in that apartment. And you happened to have been there, seen them pull up, and then you went back to your room, realized there was another bag of trash and went back to the dumpster... Thank God you didn't take that bag of trash the first time around!!

Anyway, I'm sooooo glad you found him! I think he was meant to be sent to you!! Looking forward to seeing the pictures...

I have tears in my eyes for this boy and you, what an emotional rollarcoaster....but he is one lucky dude to have a new awesome home with the best Mom he could ever hope for. You mentioned him being accidently dumped, there's no way that's the case, there's no possible way they could accidently dump a 75 gall tank with a live lizard in it, they dumped him on purpose especially since he is skinny and skittish, you know he wasn't loved

Christmas is all about giving and it's amazing that you're giving this boy a second chance at life and happiness!!

I know that it was more than a coincidence that I took out the 2nd trash and found him . Had someone else found him or yet alone.. the dumpster truck !?!? Argh, I dont even wann think about it !!! I'm just glad he's in a good home now =)

I know those people don't live in this complex.. they looked wayyy to suspicious the firs time around. Ugh it makes me soo mad just thinking about the scenario over again, but then again, I'm glad they did it because it led him to a new home with me.

Ha ! I was thinking of the name PRINCE !! I think i will stick to that, he can be my prince charming who came to rescue me ! lol.



It's a busy morning already! MJ sleeps with me in the bed every night and after she fell asleep, I let him sleep in the bed with me (i was in the middle). This morning I woke up to MJ waking up before me (which never happens), she was black bearding and freaking out, then I looked over, she was staring at Prince's tail ! lol. I covered the sides of her tank so she cant see him, although I think she can still 'sense' that there is a new beardie in the house with a .. errr.. bigger tank than hers. So there may be jeaolousy involved. DO any of you with more than one beardies know if beardies can sense other beardies even if they can't see them ? or no ? Maybe it's just me over reacting. Plus, I took one of her extra basking rock and gave it to Prince, so she's a little mad at me already about that Ugh !

I am a little excited though because not only I have two loving poopers... I dont have to throw away veggies as much !! lol ! Usually MJ doesnt finish the bags of veggies in time they go bad.

Well, thank you all for all the kind words and thank you for all your support ! I will definately keep you updated, I'm going to Target later to get some batteries for my cam so I can taken pictures =D

All i can say is wow :shock: I hope Prince does really well for you. Thank you for taken him in. I've made mine mad a time or two taking stuff from everyones viv when we rescued Zero. They will get over it after a few months j/k lol

lol yes I tried to tell her this can be her xmas present to him, but she's being stubborn and is now being a brat ! I was feeding Prince just now and she managed to peek and saw that I had baby food in my hand to feed him.. and boy did she go crazy ! lol. I find it quiet amusing !! :mrgreen:

Aww that is one lucky lizard. Do we get to see pics of the little one soon? With how tiny it is, do you think it is an extra small adult or still a baby?

My almost 11 yr old just told me that she would take him if you lived closer (not sure where you are located) but we are in Eastern PA. and your other lizard probably is feeling jealous--used to ALL your attention and now "what I have to share my mom?".

I cant believe someone would do something so mean. i wonder if he was brumating and they thought he was dead?
Anyway we all know on beardeddragon.org that he is know in good hands.

Wow, Kudos big time to taking in the little guy! On the topic of sensing other beardies, my three don't seem to be able to, but Kana is a bit of a nosy girl and tries to check out who all is in the room! But mostly they seem to make the association that there is another beardie around when you're paying attention to another tank, at least that's how it seems with mine.
Good luck with Prince, I'm sure he'll perk right up!

All I could say was OMG the whole time it took to read the thread! :shock: Absolutely bizarre! That is one lucky beardie! That tops my craziest animal story-I found a cat in a shopping cart at the grocery store at 1am! It was def meant to be. Merry Christmas new beardie mom! What a lucky boy!
