How to cut Constanople's nails....

you can do it with regular finger nail clippers or reptile clippers.you just clip them, but you have to be very careful of the red vein in their nails, b/c if you hit that, it will hurt very badly.

Does anyone have a close up pic of the nail and to where the "safe cutting" distance is? Im really scared to clip mines nails too as I fear that red vein. Ive managed to get another option for my parrot (sand paper on the perches, great birdie nailfile LOL) But dont think sand paper in a beardie cage would work

I have actually read somewhere if you put a rock of somesort in the cage that it would work as a file ( like the parrot ) maybe try in the basking area ?
Would probably need to research that more but just an idea.

I would not risk this. put rocks, wood, tiles (with grout!) in the cage, anything like props will shim down the nails naturally.
I would never cut my dragon's nails.

My dargons nails were incredibly long and sharp, but I was too scared to clip them. I changed out her substrate to tile and now she keeps her own nails nice a trim! Plus it makes for easier cleanup. Switching to tile was the best decision ever.

I dont use grout but the tiles were cut to fit the cage tightly. It is way easier to clean the tile if your beardie poops in the cage by pulling out that tile and cleaning it then having to clean the entire cage each and everytime they poop in the cage. Luckly my girl doesnt poop in her cage. I also put down linoleum underneath of tile to protect the glass.

You can see the vein in their nails if you look really closely... You dont want to cut much off though: Just the very tip, so you dont end up scratched and bleeding when you hold them!
I clip my beardies nails, and its not risky if you know how to do it right. Dudley didnt even notice when I clipped his... Out of all my pets, his nails are the easiest to trim!

Personally I do not like the idea of trimming their nails I'd perfer to use hard surfaces like those mentioned to file them down naturally. However if you must never go into the cuticle/quick area then you will never hit the vein that runs the length of the nail quick. Also think about it much like the human nail if you clip it short then you expose the cuticle which is tender and could easily hurt. The nail being a bit extended from the cuticle is best as it protects the cuticle. :wink:

If you are scared of clippers, use Peti File. A little grinder, mines just sits there as I bump and touch the grinder on the tips.
