a girl shouldn't care whether you have a beardie or not, just don't show them your roach colony and you'll be fine lolol.

I'm the girl in my house and my boyfriend is freaked out by most the critters i have, he still doesn't know about the dubia roaches in the front closet... :silent: ... I am 22 and he sometimes gets on for me and is 65 we've been together a year and a half in july and it's the best relationship i've ever had, we have way more in common than i do with most people my own age... we are actually thinking about getting married soon and starting a family, though most people that meet him for the first time think he's in his fourties... I can't keep up with him, he's go go go all the time and he works out a couple times a week...

that's great that you guys love each other, but what do you think is going to happen if he found out on his own or heard it from someone. Tell him the the truth. You'll find ways to work things out. It's not the end of the world.

Dishonesty always gets people into trouble. If you were honest with yourself and other people in the first place, you wouldn't end up in a tight situation. It took me a while to figure that one out!

Eee Gads...am I the *eldest* so far? 53!

I always wanted a *tame* lizard lol. Had plenty of wild ones growing up in CA...along with wild snakes, birds etc...whatever I could catch for a while and release (well, usually sooner than I was ready due to my mother insisting LOL).

As an adult our family has usually had a few pets...cats, dog, cockatiel, box turtle...nearly always a wild lizard especially the *alligator* type. We would (ok, my daughter was an expert at catching them......hmmm, wonder *where* she got *that* from??LOL) catch them, keep them in a terrarium for a few days...feed store bought crix and observe them (the kids would keep a journal for those days) then set them free~~~

Years later now we only still have our Lab. Our 2 oldest dc are on their own and we have a 12 yo son. It was time he had a pet of his own. Although my husband said no reptiles.............well.........I argued that a boy and his lizard..........you know :laughing6:

Now...my husband has to hold him, talk to him, check on him and his temps yada yada LOL Good beardie slave now.

So I get my beardie but he is really our sons' pet in the end. He is in the living room (another thing my dh said would never happen! LOL)I of course get to treat him like mine as well, however. Pretty sad when one of the reasons I hope our son stays with us past 18 is so that his lizard will get to be with us!!!! :laughhard: :laughhard:  (jk, sort of...)

Long story, sorry about that!

You're funny! You're are about my cousin's age...I think she a little older.

At first I thought reptiles was the best thing their is... I love animals. But as I got older, around 18, and had very serious crush on someone, I think I like girls better than reptiles now. I never had children, so I don't know about that. My sister's gave birth to her son almost 2 years ago, and I think I'm starting to come around and bond with the boy because I watch him sometimes. He is such a silly boy!

LOL

However, on the other hand~~~~~if a girl can't handle a few bugs in her life then I guess she is not the one for you :laughing6: So...no girlie girls LOL What gets me is the ONLY reason my hubby is OK with a dubia colony is b/c of the $$ that will be saved :D Of course, I am blessed b/c actually he will let me do whatever is necessary :blob5:

(I mean, I don't know many men that would spend $2,000 on vet bills for a lizard we had only 5 weeks at the time...and he knew the chances of survival were close to none, which turned out to be the case :( But it just shows how far into your heart your pets can get :)

This reminds of when I wrote this to my former girl friend: "I have never loved...like the way I love...like I've always loved you!"

he would be fine with the dubias if we were not in an apartment... and he never goes into the insect room if he can help it. the crickets even creep him out a little bit. he would just look at me and shake his head. that's what he does every time i even bring some home to feed Apollo.

Some people don't hate reptiles, spiders and bugs, but they don't care for it either. And some people do have an illogical fear of things like spiders, tarantulas, and snakes so if you force the matter on people like that, it will only intensify their fear. Only you can figure out what to do and what you want. You are fully capable of deciding what to do with your life.

I know I've been following this for a while and I thought I had commented but I guess not.

I'm 24. I live with my boyfriend (he's 27) but the bearded dragons are CLEARLY mine. He'll take them out and hold them but he's not the biggest fan of them. He doesn't get what I see in reptiles. And he hates the feeder bugs. He's really not a fan of insects and thinks I'm weird for touching them.

Here! Here! To old people! [laugh] [Time to go take some vitamins!] [sigh]

Sigh. Not the oldest or the youngest by far. I'm 27, my hubby is 25, and I have been owned by Dragon since I was 22. James has always had reptiles (mostly snakes, with a few geckos as well) but I was adopted by Dragon and have been hooked ever since. She decided to have joint custody when Cap'n entered the picture about 2 years ago. :)

I am 24, I got Puff 3 years ago from some people my sister knew, I was scared of him at first but then I loved him. He was 10 or 11 then so that means this summer he is at least 13 years old!
The husband talks to the reptiles and says "hi Puff" but as far as getting them out.... NO... he's scared he will hurt them. I can understand being afraid to hurt the geckos because they are so small, but I don't know why he would be afraid of hurting Puff. He will feed them if I ask him to though! But he takes no initiative to feed them on his own, he doesn't mind the worms or the roaches.
He likes them, he thinks they are cool but he's not the primary care taker, I am. But he takes care of the garden outside and grows Puff vegetables! So he helps!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
