How do i get my beardie use to being picked up?

My beardie neak was a little skittish when i first brought him home. I handled him in short periods for about 2 minutes at a time. I cleaned his cage regularly, sat and talked to him regularly, and if you feel skittish around them sometimes animals pick up on that.

Just keep trying and be patient. And as for other people, i think letting other people around might be good too. I let my sister play with him and i took him around other people.

Thats my experience anyways. Good luck :]

The past couple of days he has been getting better it seems. He dosent mind as much when my hand goes into the tank and i can get real close to him. Its only when i go to touch him now it seems. Ive only had him a little over a month so hopefully soon he will be fine with it. His tank is right next to my bed also so he is constantly seeing me all day. Thanks for the help everybody!

Suzemict are you implying your dragon is wildcaught?
Someone in my neighborhood in Sacramento CA released some that appeared to be loose for most of last summer. I found this out when I went to the neighbors to see if they had lost one. I found out others found some as well. He appeared to be about 6 months old when I found him in September.

Did anyone report it? That is why gerbils are illegal in CA, and dubias in Florida, they are a potential invasive species.

I thought gerbils were illegal here due to unscrupulous abuse.

be sure to approach him slowly and from the front. lift his front feet and set them on your flat hand, then scoot the rest of him on.

you can try putting your hand in the enclosure for a bit each day and just letting him get used to your presence. after he calms down from your hand being in the tank you can try to gently pet him.

you can also take him out a bit before bedtime and let him lay on you. he'll come around eventually as long as you keep working with him.

I didn't see it mentioned, but if you have an old shirt or something, wear it for 24 straight hours (sleep in it too), then cut up a piece of sleeve or something, and put it on his basking spot.

this is what I did for Agni, and it didn't take him long at all to get used to being handled by me

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
