How did you name your baby?

I've met so many people on this site with unique names for their beardies and I thought it'd be fun to share stories of where their names came from.

I got Yoshi as a birthday present from my good friend Mario. I was going to name him Blaze or Maverick but one night my cousin said, "Since Mario is getting him for you, his name should be Yoshi." And so it was decided.

I like the name Yoshi! My dog's name is Maverick, it's a great pet name!

My Beardie's name is Jayne Cobb. It's from the show Firefly. He's a bad-ass mercenary character with a soft side as well. I thought it was very appropriate for my Beardie with a 'tude!

I had wondered if that's where you had gotten the name. They look sort of like Yoshis, don't they? :lol:

I've shared this story a couple of times on here already, but I'll do it again: we got the name "Wave" from our 13-month-old daughter. Wave is nominally hers, her pet. I asked her what she wanted to name her dragon, expecting her to point at something - probably the dog, she points at the dog a lot, and I figured we'd go with "Saluki" or "Fido" or something silly like that - and she waved at me instead. So "Wave" it was.

(I usually name pets after characters in whatever I happen to be reading - if I'd gotten to do that, Wave would have been Arya, since I was in the midst of re-reading George RR Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" books in preparation for the TV series/new book. Arya seems like the type who would like a beardie... And it would be easier to spell than the more-obvious-where-dragons-are-concerned Targaryen names. /nerd mode off :wink: )

Haha! That's awesome! My 4 year old niece plays mario on the wii and knows who Yoshi is so any lizards are called lizards but she calls all beardies "Yoshi". So she'll see one on tv and say "Look at that big Yoshi!"

I named Basil after the dragon in the merlins dragon books.

Dudley just... Looked Dudley-ish. I really have no other explanation.

Plus, after 3 days of calling him Nombre ("name" in Spanish, LOL!) I figured I should settle on something. :roll: So Dudley it was.

When I adopted Wink I thought he was missing an eye, so I pretty much decided on that instantly. It turned out he did indeed have both eyes, but the name just stuck.

Jess, I wondered about Wink from seeing it in your sig, but didn't wanna ask cuz I know he passed and I never know how ppl feel about talking about their animals that have passed. I think Dudley's name suits him, though.

I have had mine for 3 weeks and my family and I couldnt decide on anything! But everytime we feed him his hunting tatics crack us up, I would always coo to him how good of a hunter he was and thus he became" Hunter"

Ha ha yes me too I was ready to draw a name out of a hat! Finally I said forget everyone I'm naming him I do all the work he's my baby!!!

Oh, that's fine, I don't mind talking about him. Long story short, I rescued him from being put to sleep at the vet clinic I observe at (Petco brought him in), because he had a really bad abscess and infection in his eye. Petco gave him to me for free, so I took him! His eye got better with some antibiotics, but when he was around 10 months old he had liver failure and kidney problems, and the vet said there was nothing I could do, and he ended up dieing on my birthday. It's sad, but if I didn't adopt him I would have never gotten into beardies, and I wouldn't have Dud now.

So now you know, and I'll stop hijacking your thread LOL.

Torch because he has orange on his ears B/F named him and I loved it
