How can you tell if a beardie is blind?

Have you tried moving your hand in front of it's eyes to see if it follows?
Why do you think he is blind or going blind?

I just feel like his eyes can't focus on the things in front of him. Like he can see them, enough to eat his food and catch his crickets and walk around, but when I hold a piece of veggie out to him, he takes a long while to realise that he can eat it.

My beardie will never eat vegetables in front of me, it's natural in my opinion they just hate their veggies.

He's not blind if he can catch his food, you are just a slave :)

He loves his veggies, though.

Well, I do feel better, thanks for your reassurance. And you're right, if he can catch his crickets then he's probably okay. Thanks everyone. Guess I'm just a paranoid mom. :)

Aha! Just as I suspected.... another beardie trying to outwit it's slave

SJM.....you have absolutely nothing to worry about. This is common practice for our little scaley friends. Believe me when I say....it is very normal for them to overlook something or act as if they don't see it. Yes... they even do this with live prey

I think this is how they lure us in to our slavedom. They act as if they are incapable of doing anything so that we will sit there patiently doing it for them!

This is why we love these little creatures so much. It's their funny little quirks that keep us wanting more!

I've become a slave too. :) Smurf will not catch crickets from underneath the log in his enclosure. :banghead: Which forces me to remove the log so he can get them. When we first got him he would stick his head under the log and patiently wait for the crickets to climb into his mouth... now I have to retrieve them for him.

You could always try feeding him in a rubbermaid bin.... then you don't have to worry about the crickets hiding in or under anything! :D

beardies have excellent eye sight, the only thing about it is they bad depth perception, if u hold your hand close to your beardie and watch its eye youll see the pupil get bigger or smaller for a few seconds. just like a human but slower they are trying to focus

I've noticed with our beardies, if they aren't hungry, they won't see the food. Obviously your beardie didn't think the lettuce was food or he would have noticed it, or he wasn't very hungry at that time.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
