So originally I bought the Exo-terra front loading Viv for Sammy, but I had enough spare parts to build a second full Viv. Now that I have the Vivs stacked on a metal shelf, I'm finding the original top loading Viv to be a pain in the rear. I plan of getting a second Exo-terra to replace Sammy's current Viv, but what do I do with his Original?

I dont want it to go to waste, but I dont plan on selling it either. If I use it for another beardie, I'll run into the same issue again at somepoint...
I also already have 2 nice 30 Gallon tubs in use for crickets and roaches, so no need there.

Wait so u got two tanks now but u want to buy a 3rd well noyone can really tell u like if I had the money an had 2 extra tanks I would put animals in them my opinion u now what I suggest uromastyx In one I them

Hey Tristan I have the same 40g exo-terra viv with the front doors and back round. Well we have 3 and a 4th on the way, I read you had yours stacked on a metal shelf..Where did you get the metal shelf? Is it a standing rack, almost like a book case, or two shelfs on the wall?

I now have 2 Exo-Terra front loading Vivs and 1 standard top loading 40 Gallon Breeder. I have Sammy already in one and hopefully will be getting one of Barbara babies sometime in the near future. The 40 Gallon Breeder is being phased out and more than likely will just be put in storage until I can figure out what to do with it. While it was a nice starting Viv, I don't like the hassle of removing the lighting every time I want to get in it. Also, with it stacked on the shelving, its even harder to get in it.

The metal shelving I have is the Honey-can-do 5 Tier 18"deep x 42"wide x 72"tall. The Shelves are free standing and come in Black, White and Chrome. I believe they are Rated for 800 lbs, so two Vivs and extra supplies shouldn't be an issue. I only installed 4 out of the 6 shelves mine came with and found it to be extremely sturdy. The heights are easily adjustable to fit whatever height Vivs you have. They are listed as $164.00, but I think I got mine a little cheaper at the local Home Depot.

If by some circumstance I fine myself with 4 beardies, I would definitely buy another of the same shelving unit. They look nice and they are very easy to put together.

Thank you for the information. We've been looking for something to stack our vivs on, and not go broke over. We've been everywhere too. Today we went to Lowes right by our house and found the exact same shelving unit in black metal for $70.00!! I seriously can't thank you enough, and they look great. It opened up so much space in the house. It doesn't look like we live in a pet shop anymore, it actually looks like a house again! I saw you're getting a baby from Barbara too. I'm getting PeeWee!! When he/she arrives we'll have to get another set of shelves and put two cages to a unit. Right now we have 3 cages on one unit, but putting a 4 would be waaay too tall and unsafe. I have the same vivs as you the front opening exo-terra, they are so much easier to work with all the way around. Let me know when you pick out which baby you're getting from Barbara, they are all so cute!! I really wanted PeeWee because he's a little short snout, and it was love at first sight for me and my boyfriend! We are addicted to beardies and well lizards, we have 7.

I'm happy that I helped you out with finding the perfect shelving. I started with one Viv and it was perfectly fine sitting on a small desk that I had. But when I got two, I soon found that situating them side by side was going to take up way too much room. Especially if I had to house 7 lizards! I remembered getting a good deal purchasing locally from the store, but $70.00 is a great deal.

Yes, I'm hopefully getting my next baby dragon from Barbara. I'm so excited!!!

Aww good choice in number 4, he's such a cutie!! When does he arrive to your home? I love the pictures, I really need to get on the ball and upload more pictures of my babies. If you want to check out the threads I do have they are Frank and Sunny in photo expressions and Baby Chloe in Beardie Tales. I'm behind on posting new pics but everyone is in a massive shed right now as soon as they are all done I plan on posting new photo shoots!

Yeah, #4 caught my eye right off the bat. I still looked at a few other non-leatherbacks that barbara had up, but none of them had quite the flare or look in the eye as #4 had. The last I heard from Barbara, she will look at shipping them out when the weather is doing better. There is apparently a big heatwave going through California right now.

When I get a chance, I'll read up on Frank, Sunny, Chloe, and PeeWee! I look forward to seeing plenty of pictures as well.

Sammy just finished his tail shed and is about to do the rest in the next day or so. He has been pretty grump the last few days and gives me the stink eye if I bother him too much. Hopefully he gets over his shed soon, but a nice bath tomorrow should bring out his happy colors for a bit!

Funny story, and I promise more picture tonight.

So I went to my local grocery store to get some more fruit, veggies and greens. When I went looking for peaches, they were all out! Oh no. I ended up going with some nectarines instead. I also bought some food for my self, but sad to say that was more of an afterthought. When I made Sammy's breakfast, I cut up some of the nectarine for him, some for the roaches, and some for me (big family!). I placed Sammy's salad in his Viv and stood back and watched for a minute to see if he liked them. Well with in 10 minute he came down from his tree and tried one of the Nectarines. It was pretty funny, becaue he took a bite, looked at me, looked back at the nectarine, looked at me again and then turned around as if to say "THESE ARE NOT MY PEACHES!"
Sorry buddy, all out of peaches. To make up for no peaches (spoiled little beardie) I gave him as many crickets as he could eat and let himout for a good teo hours after he digested his food. I went strait to the fish and sat their watching them for the whole time (with happy colors to boot).

Just need to keep a close eye on mine now :roll: and hope that we get those few cooler days at the same time someone can be there to accept him and that they do not fall on a Friday through Sunday as those are non shipping days for overnight air.

I'm so excited! Yeah, the weather has been pretty nice here the last few weeks and hopefully it will stay that way.
I should be able to take off Thursday after-noon, but if you think it would be risky, I can take off any day Monday through Wednesday. I'm stuck going into work early Thursday morning, as I have to deal critical things for a couple hours. I will be off all day Friday, but not being able to ship that day kind of sucks. On the bright side, I will be able to spend the entire day with him since he could already be here by then!

That tree really is shrinking... I have to upload a few of the newer pictures soon so you can see by how much it truly is shrinking.
Sammy is doing well and just finished a head and body shed. He was a little grumpy for a day or two, but is much better now. He seems to think that growing is going out of style, so he is growing as much as he can, as fast as he can. Pretty soon he will be eating me out of house and home.
