We have inherited a bearded dragon and were wondering what kind of substrate they like. Currently he is on wooden sawdust under a "shoe box" as a sleeping enclosure. Any suggestions, help would be gratefully received.

I have a had a lot of substartes with my Beardie. Here are a few suggestions:
- Newspaper; easy to clean.
- Maize corn; reccomended by a reptile shop owner. Clumps like litter when soiled.
- Wood chips; great looking and easy to clean, may get eaten by your beardie.
- Eco carpet; easy to clean and soft. Relatively cheap.

Do not use sand as it may cause compation (read care sheets for more info). It is really up to you! I personally reccoment maize corn as the critters can't hide and it acts like cat litter. And it's not harmful.

I prefer to avoid loose substrate because it can harbor bacteria, especially if it gets wet, so it's difficult to keep sanitary. I like using solid substrates like ceramic tile or non adhesive shelf liner. They are quite easy to clean/sanitize or replace.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
