Would a cfl work? I have been told it does not have enough heat but the basking light and the bulb combined might work

NO, you have already been told that a CFL will NOT work. They do NOT produce enough heat, and the light spectrum that they produce will hurt the dragons eyes

I already told you that you can't use CFL's.

Anyways, CFL's produce very very little heat.

See, Brandon answered that question not once, but 2 separate times!

You need a regular incandescent household bulb. You just have to play with the wattage, and get an aluminum dome as suggested by a separate poster.

I just went it pets mart and purchased a UVB light. My beardie is stil not eating any crickets. He just eats the worms I buy him. He eats supers and mealworms. The crickets are small and he still won't eat them, what do I do?

People clean their beardie's homes in different ways. We dust out ours and when (rarely, they seem to prefer to go outside) they poop in their tanks my husband uses a mixture of windex and vinegar sprayed in the tank, they aren't in there at the time, of course. Yes, we let it air out good before they go back into their homes. Our girls seem to prefer our shoulder to their vivs, tho. We have them spoiled very well.

Some use other stuff, depends on what they think is best.

You have SEVERAL threads basically asking the same thing! People are going to get confused if you keep starting a thread with the same content over and over.

I merged a couple of your threads. Please don't start more than one thread discussing the same things as it gets too confusing for the members, is hard for you to follow and we try our best to keep the forum neat and uncluttered.

My beardie has stopped eating all together! He is spending a lot of time in his basking spot and is not very active, is he sick? I can not take him to a vet because I have no vet in my area.

How should I force feed my beardie? He is refusing to open his mouth and has not eaten for a while

What's a while? How old is he?
Why are you trying to force feed him?
Is he losing weight?
Is your vet recommending that you force feed?

Have you tried making sure he's well hydrated
(dehydration can cause them to stop eating),
and have you had a fecal test done to check for parasites?

Force feeding should really be only done in situations
where there is no other option to be taken to save the
beardies life.

I have tried with crickets. A while would be 4 days in my opinion. I do not have a vet other than the vets at pets mart who I would only go to for a last resort. We do not have any reptile vets in our area. I am not sure how old he is. All I know is I got him from pet smart two months ago and he was pretty small. He is 10.5 inches long. I wonder if he has impaction? I have kept him hydrated and he does not seem to be losing weight?

Hi there! Sorry your guy seems to be on strike :( Can I ask how you are keeping him hydrated? Are you giving him 20 minute soaks? How often? Have you tried any other kind of feeder? Soft bodied worms such as butterworms, reptiworms, hornworms? Or even dubia roaches (if they're legal where you are, I didn't see).

I'm only asking because I have been dealing with something very similar with my boy. I syringe feed him in-between days he won't eat but he also gets oral fluids as well as daily 20 minute soaks due to the change in season and the humidity being so low.

Our beardie decided he liked the butterworms and will do well when offered those, or the soft white dubia that are freshly shed. Beardies can go long periods of time without food but hydration is most important. If you're concerned, I would suggest making sure his temps are correct (double check husbandry, always) and if you'd like to, you can always offer him stage 1 baby food chicken and squash or sweet potato from a baby dropper or syringe. It can't hurt. I'd be very careful, though. You're not necessarily "force feeding" him as you wouldn't want him to choke. Most beardies love it anyway, it's sweet and some will lick it right off a spoon. I'd start by putting a drop on his snout and watching to see if he licks it off.

Good luck and keep us posted! You might want to have a fecal done on him soon as well. My beardie had pinworms (clear now, thank goodness) back in August. If you go to http://www.beardeddragon.co they have mail in fecal kits to test for pinworms and coccidia.

Good luck!

I think at this point he needs to go to a vet. There's no way around that. I noticed you started a topic about force-feeding in the feeding subforum; from what I've heard that is an absolute last resort AFTER the beardie has seen a vet and nothing else is working. Call around and ask if there are any vets in the area that see reptiles. Most vet clinics will gladly direct you to a good reptile/exotic vet somewhere in the general vicinity. You might have to drive a ways, but I really think for the sake of your beardie you should do your best to get him checked. Also, maybe stop feeding mealworms. They are known to cause issues and most dragons cannot digest them, leaving them to just kind of sit in the stomach and digestive tract. See if you can get your hands on some phoenix worms.

I keep him hydrated by. Bathing him twice or three times a week. I only bath him for max 10 min. Though. I really can't buy any worms besides meal worms, super worms, and wax worms. I could order online but that may take a while to come. I am not sure if the lighting may be affecting him. He has a reptisun 10.0 for 20 gal. Or smaller tank but my tank is 29 gal. I have a basking bulb and the temps in his spot get to around 90f.
