Start them on the leash when they are young so they get used to it. Kirby was on his leash going outside when he was 4 months old. We never take him outside without it. If he gets scared by something, then he might jump away and would run away and we would never see him again. It would kill our family to loose our little dragon.
I made our leash out of paracord and a plastic spring lock. It cost me around $4.
