She looks wonderful & boy she sure can eat. :p She eats very delicately and is careful to pick out just what she wants of her salad. Sure does look like the escarole is her favorite and the peppers too. Thanks for posting those videos. She looks so content and it does look like she is smiling. :love5:

Regarding the canned crickets, I have never used them because I have heard of them being spoiled, even before the expiration date, so that makes me weary of them. I'm not sure if they would have less of a chance of having parasites or not actually, but you do have to wonder if at least some of the crickets were already dead before they were processed. I prefer to get crickets online because they always seem healthier & plumper than the ones from the petstores. I think that's the safest way to go actually.

Is she still having problems with the butterworms coming out whole? What is the basking temp and does she sit right there for at least an hr to digest?

Thank-you Diane and 1happymommy,

Bella is sure special to me, and her colors are getting more vivid as the days go on. It's been 2 days with the new lighting, havn't seen alot of improvement with digestion though, still am finding whole worms in her potty............ but time will tell.

Today Bella had her salad, consisting of escarole, squash, carrots, zucchini, peppers and strawberries, although I havn't seen her touch the strawberries yet. She has had collards and kale as well, but the escarole and squash is her favorite.

I'm hoping to post 2 videos, one of her eating salad and the other eating the canned crickets. (I get the large cricks, remove the wings, back legs, head and cut them in half) Sounds so gross, but they are so big and she is small. She had live crickets ocassionally from her previous owner, but I don't like them d/t the parasite factor (I figure that the canned cricks have been roasted in the can and parasites wouldn't have a chance, does that sound right, Diane?) She also loves the phoenix and butter worms too.

I'll try to post some new pics as well,

What great videos!
Im going to show the salad eating one to Dexter later.
She's been trying to convince me for months that beardies DONT eat salad.
Pffft.
Ive got her this time!!!

About the extra liquid that is passed when she goes potty- this usually is a sign of good hydration. I was alarmed at first when I noticed Dragon passing liquid, too. The water they need is absorbed and the extra is... passed on. Hope this helps.

Congrats on your new baby! What a cutie. Love the colors, too!

Seems lots of us are softies... I adopted my first Dragon when the breeder couldn't sell him because he wasnt "perfect." He is missing a foot at the ankle... they just forgot to tell Dragon! He has never let it stop him from a day of trouble... lol.

Congrats again!

Ahhhh, you guys are so great. I love these stories of success. I hate to hear about a creature who suffers, but people like you guys give these little souls a great life even after having been through terrible times. Your baby looks so healthy and happy. You should be really proud of yourself!!! :blob8:

artreyu917 I looked at her still photo in the cricket video again............ it does seem like she's smiling.......happy baby :D

Barbara Thank-you she is a cutie, I'm so glad she eats well, unlike my boys right now, I think their trying to brumate :?

Diane She does pick and choose what she eats in her salad early morning, but when I come home from work, most of the salad is gone, I'm so glad she has a good appetite! Boy, that makes me wonder about the canned crickets, although, there is a distinct smell when youv'e had them open too long. I too always bought crickets on line, in bulk, when Ollie and Pyrex were small and growing, I think it's the only way to go because of their huge appetite. Now that their adults, I give them butter and phoenix worms, they don't need as much protein now, and I love not having the upkeep of crickets. I had roaches for a while, trying to build the colony, but never had a chance to use them as feeders because I didn't want to burden those taking care of my boys, who would have to take care of the roaches too:shock: I'd like to try them again sometime, but for now the worms will have to do.
She had 2 whole butterworms in her potty today, the crickets seem to be digesting well, I have a reptisun 10.0, along with a 75 watt basking light and she sits right under the light all the time, temps are around 105 but I'm checking them again right now, (I'm using a digital thermometer) She had a MVB, but her tank is just under 40 gallon, so I didn't feel it should be used, I'm going to try the reptisun and give it time, hopefully it will help, any suggestions are always welcome. :) (The new reading of temps is 97 to 100, not good, may have to go to a 100 watt bulb) What do you think?

Ethelia Did Dexter eat her salad after watching the video? :p I know how you feel, both Ollie and Pyrex are on a salad strike. :(

supertrisha Thanks for the advice about excreting the liquid, I did know that, but I think the part that bothered me was that I saw no white urates with all this liquid, that only happened once, thank goodness.
I love Bella's colors too, and they get more vivid as time goes on. It's amazing to me, that if I were to buy a "perfect" beardie, this is the color I'd want, God knew.
I am a softy, as it seems like you are too, I'm sure your baby is very spoiled as well, right?.....thanks for the congrats!

jscott Thanks for the words of encouragement, Bella does get around well, she has to try a few times when climbing on her hammock and cave, that's why the're very low.
It's funny that that you say that LG and Bella look alike............. when I saw the first pics of her (that I took) I said the same thing to myself. Could they be from the same clutch? (even though we are both on different coast) But seriously, they are both small, etc, and it makes you wonder if having the same characteristics, is the reason why they were picked on. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mommy of Sunny Thank-you for your kind words.........but it's the beardies who have stolen our hearts.......we had no choice but to take and love them.

well wishes to you all,

Good Morning everyone,

This is your week-end report (feel like SNL) on Bella.

Things are going well, but I'm still seeing the butterworms whole in the duty, I've put another 75W basking (along with the reptisun 10 and another 75 w basking) to raise the temps, still hovering in the low 100's. Everytime I go to measure the temp, Bella lays on the probe, so I need to cuddle with her and measure at the same time. I've up'ed the basking bulb to 100, I'll give it time and then measure. I still give her

I don't have any new videos today, but a few pics:

My beardie doesn't process butterworms either. I just stick with my phoenix worms.

WOW!! she look SO HAPPY! grats.

My beardie is also pooping out his pheonix worms whole. What does that mean? Is he not getting any nutrients from them?

HI again! I just read this and I had a problem with it to. Temps were all fine and everthing else he ate was digested properly. I ended up giving up on the Pheonix worms because even though it seemed liek Judah was cewing them up pretty good, he was pooping them out whole too. Tracy said this can happen if they are eating them too fast and not chewing them. And yes they are not getting anything out of them if they are coming out whole. I was bummed, such a waste of money I guess, but man he loved those things!

Hello everyone,

Thanks for everyone's well wishes and comments................ I'll keep things coming if the interest is still there.

It's been difficult for me to udate daily d/t work, etc., so forgive me............ fortunately, things are going pretty well......... Bella is still have problems with digestion though, the butterworms come out whole..... flat......... but whole :dontknow: , so it's very questionable if she getting any protein or not from them. I've up'ed her basking bulb to 100 degrees, making the temps 107, along with the reptisun 10 next to the basking light. Her color is getting more and more brighter, no stress noticed, and she appears very healthy. She is shedding in some places, so it's a sign of growth which pleases me. She still passes alot of fluid with her urates with some odor, (I'm hoping to get a good stool sample, without worms, for testing soon) so I may post in the health forum with these issues to get some idea's, of course, any suggestions given here would always be welcomed.

Aside from all that, I have a few pics and a video of her eating butterworms. What makes this eating video different, is I smeared chicken baby food on the butterworms for protein assurance...........which based on Bella's reaction............ she knew something was different............ but it didn't stop her from gobbling them all up.

Hope you like these!

She looks wonderful, bright and happy, even if she isn't digesting everything she eats. If the butterworms are flattened, she is getting at least the liquids out of them, which sounds like there is some improvement. I loved the vid, when she would stop to watch you watching her! :laughing6: Don't worry about daily reports, although we love to read them. If I reported on what each of my dragons does every day, I would have time for anything else!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
