I am currently using this carpet flooring in Nash's cage. The crickets crawl under it and hide. I want to replace the carpet, but I am worried about impaction. What can I use that is safe?

A lot of us use tile. It works great, easy to clean, no impaction risk and it can help keep your beardies nails filed down.

I personally think it's easier to just feed in a separate container (I use a rubbermaid tote) then you don't have to worry about that. I also use tile, a lot of people just use paper towel. I did that till I got tile.

HI
I personley would not use sand no matter what type it is unhygenic you might think you get all the poop out but the sand will absorb some hence your viv will start to smell would be like keeping them in a litter box :puke: .Not only that people seem to think that beardies live on sand in the wild its more like a hard dusty clay which is totaly different. Also by using sand your beardie is at a greater risk of becoming impacted.

I agree with Frank79. However, I do have some sand in Vinny's tank. I have tiles over 3/4 of the floor and a section of sand for her to dig and play in...but I have extra tiles that I slide over top of the sand area when I don't want her to have access to it. Sort of like a removable sand box. So, if she's been fed and I'm waiting for a poop, then I slide the tile over the sand so I don't have to worry about her pooping in it (although she usually prefers the bathtub!)

As with almost everything in life, there is always going to be arguments when it comes to particle substrates and safe alternatives, just do your research and find something you are comfortable with.

Most hardware stores or where ever you buy your tiles should be able to cut them for you. Usually for free...just get the measurements for the inside of your viv.

I got my tiles at lowes and after getting home realized I should have gotten them cut... I took the pieces I needed cut back in to the store and they happily cut them for free for me.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
