Finn, Venus and Jupiter: New beardie baby!

Spyro is my first bearded dragon and I brought him home on the 27th. He came from an individual that was not giving him the proper care: No uvb, feeding mealworms, sand, UTH instead of basking light, etc. They had been misinformed by a pet store employee (big surprise there). I wanted to start this thread so I and everyone else can watch Spyro as he grows.

About me: My name is Lindsey, I am 25 years old. I have a 6 year old daughter with Angelman Syndrome and she a happy little girl that teaches me something new everyday. I have a 4 year old boy named Garrett that shares my love of animals and he loves Spyro as much as I do. I have 3 dogs: Remington(Remi) is a 1 1/2 year old boxer, Tucker is my shihtzu mix, and the mighty Kujo, a toy poodle weighing in a 4.5 lbs. I also have 3 leopard geckos: Venus, Loki, and Thor. I am attending school full time to become a surgical tech. My life is chaotic, but that's the way I like it.

Now back to Spyro, this is the day I brought him home( I am sure a lot of you have seen these pics in the intro section, sorry I will have new ones up soon) :

I will update every once in a while with new pictures. When I got him he was in shed.... and still is. I am getting impatient to see this guy brighten up!

Me too! Well I was supposed to get my roaches on Tuesday and they never came and I didn't get them today either. The tracking says they are still in transit so I have a feeling that most likely they will be dead when they get here :( I have a few because I bought 10 females and 2 males from a local guy to beef up the starter colony that I ordered. I really hope they come tomorrow, my worms shipped yesterday and should be here tomorrow also.

Well everyone ate well again today. I gave Finn and Thorn crickets this morning and the leos crickets tonight. On the days I work 12 hours (10:30am-11pm) I can't feed Thorn 2x a day like I would like to but it's only a couple days a week so he will be ok.

It will be ok, missing a couple of meals a week isn't going to hurt him, that's for sure. You should contact the roach company to make sure there is a clause that they guarantee live delivery, that way if the worse happens they have to replace them. Hopefully they're in tomorrow, though.

They do have a live guarantee but today is my other 12 hour shift so I won't be here to get them and you have to make a claim within so many hours. I have a friend stopping by after they get off work at 3:30 to bring them in if they are here so they aren't sitting out until 11pm. I am hoping they will be here today.

Well got the roaches and worms today! I maybe had one or two dead roaches and no dead worms that I have found so far. I can't wait for the boys to try some worms tomorrow. Venus got a medium hornworm and a few butterworms and there was a small enough hornworm for Jupiter and s/he got several butters.

I have right at about 500 dubia and now to just leave them alone and let them do their thing.

Well that's a relief. I guess you got all sizes of the roaches? That's a good amount to start a colony. There will be babies before you know it!

Where did you get your worms from?

Yeah I got all sizes but I have about 25 females and 5-7 males. They should be going good in a month or 2. I got my worms from Linda, they shipped them on Tuesday and they were here on Thursday!

It was fun to watch Finn and Thorn with the worms this morning. I gave Finn 2 big hornworms and several silkworms and he was so excited I swear he was dancing lol. Then I gave Thorn 2 of they smaller horns and then several silkworms also, he wasn't sure at first because he had never seen worms before but he was nuts about them.

That's great that they like the worms. I've been thinking of getting some, too, but I'm not home to receive them, that's always the issue because they won't send them by mail. I'll have to figure that out. See if there's someone else I can have them delivered to when I have the $ to get different worms. It's easy for me to get small & mini supers and crickets, though.

Maybe you can figure something out so you can get worms. All of my scaly pets love them, Venus and Jupiter are both sleeping off their food comas. Jupter is getting so big, I'll have to get pictures up later tonight.
Thorn is up to 87grams so that is good. Finn is at 411grams, he has always been more on the petite side.

Wow, Thorn sure is getting big fast! And yes, I'll have to look into it. First to get back to work full-time before my salary goes down & then to pay my brother for my car repairs (March), then the taxes I owe (April & May) and then to start putting $ away to get Puff fixed. And put $ away for when i have my ankle operated, then I guess I can look into some works. This year is just a write off funds wise. At least I can keep up with the crickets for now!

I hate having to be on a strict budget but I have been for a few years now and I have finally rid of a few bills, thankfully.

Now that you're working full time, you must have a better budget, right? I don't have any debt but because retirement is only 6 years away, I had to start putting $ away in a retirement fund, so that reduced my income by a bit. But it's necessary and luckily it comes off my gross income. It's handy to be working in a bank! I just don't make a huge amount of $, my salary was frozen because of absenteeism. If I hadn't fallen & mucked up my ankle so badly 2 years ago, it would have been better!

But I can manage, just like I have since Roger passed away. I feel better, being on my own, even with the ankle. At least the main ligament that was frayed has healed, but there is still damage in the tendons close to the left ankle bone, plus cartilige that has come loose on top of the foot. So there is some work to do. I still can't remember what the procedure is called. He told me there is always a chance of something going wrong but he's a well known surgeon and said he does this sort of surgery alot & has rarely had an issue. All I know is that my left ankle still gets swollen, then the pain goes up to my hip and I start limping a bit. So I'm hoping surgery will heal all this.

The year started with a $600 vet bill for Didi and Puff. I think that's what put my budget off, then car repairs and the $ I'll owe to taxes. So by June I'll have free pays again. Leo needs a blood test, Nathaniel needs another fecal and then Puff needs to get fixed. After that, clear pays again!

It's always something when you have dragons

Yes working full time has really helped my budget but since it is just me and the kids (I don't get child support because the kid's dad is a great help and he has them on the days I work 12 hours, he has always been great to get them what they need) and I now pay rent on a house instead of an apartment, I have to watch my spending but I make pretty good money and I love my job. I agree, there is always something when you own dragons! Well I have some pictures, everyone except Venus who was sleeping so I didn't want to bother her.

Finn looking very pleased that he knocked down his hammock AGAIN, he is such a brat.

Thorn with his big worm and roach belly!

And Jupiter waiting for me to drop another butterworm

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
