I believe that would be o.k. as long as you only feed the small or medium, ones. I once ordered the small ones and found out they were very, very tiny, almost like phoenix worms. If you order the small ones (really tiny) they will last longer, assuming your beardie doesn't eat them that much. The only problem is they have a little to much fat.

I agree, order the small size and you should be okay. :)

While it's okay, they are not a great staple feeder for a growing dragon and if fed exclusively could lead to impaction just like feeding the larger ones.

I think the other posters missed the "as a staple" bit (I did at first, too) - that would not be appropriate. :)

Honestly, dubia roaches are way more "harmless" than superworms. Superworms can chew out of containers. They bite. Dubia are slow moving and aren't going to bite.

Not to sound mean, but if you can't provide a good diet out of discomfort, perhaps a different reptile is a better idea. :) For instance, snakes in general are fed much less often and although the pre-killed feeders are "gross" to some, they're not going to move around on you and can't escape.

I was nervous about dubia at first, but they're just like large pill-bugs. I was freaked out and watched them for half an hour right when I got them, making sure they couldn't escape. And they can't, hooray ! They don't smell, they're so slow that the few times I've dropped one, it's been super easy to pick it up again. They're much nicer than crickets in that regard - they're not going to jump out of their tub and they don't make noises at any size. :D

Sorry to jump in on the post, but this seems like a good place to ask (rather than starting a whole new thread). We were told by our local reptile store (I know, I know XD; ) that to slow the crickets right down you can put them in the fridge for a few minutes - but not too long or they'll die. They'll get cold and slow right up enough for you to easily get them into the viv, then will perk up in the heat. Is this a suitable practice?

Yes! This is how I deal with crickets. I throw them in the refridgerator for 5-10 min until they are not really moving/moving slowly.

You can take it one step farther and while they are cold/"sleeping", you can cut the crickets' jumper legs off with a small pair of scissors. A little barbaric, I know  - but then then they can't jump out of the feeding dish.

This is a lot of work, and that's why I don't really like to deal with crickets. Roaches are 40,498,041,896,980 times easier to deal with. :D

Thanks Michelle :D I was reading up on breeding dubias the other day (when our landlord was on the fence about granting us permission exactly because of the crickets, and we were trying to convince him we'd take care of his place) and they seem like they're worth the effort BUT roaches freak me out a hell of a lot more than crickets :/ I'm still not great with bugs, and just the idea of having a tub of roaches in our apartment makes me feel uncomfortable. I'm hoping I'll get used to it with time XD Luckily my other half is always on hand to help out with the live feeding!

I felt the same way about the roaches at first, but the nymphs (anything smaller than a full-grown adult roach) look like little rolly-polly pillbugs - they don't look/act like "traditional" roaches at all. Now the ADULT roaches on the other hand... LOL :bleick: ...actually, they aren't that bad either. Just big.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
