Hello,

I am sorry he isn't doing much better. I am really wondering if he did hurt himself somehow, poor guy.
That is good he is a little more active, hopefully he will start improving for you soon.
I know that is rough, you are doing your best for Spyro.

Let us know how he is doing.

Good news on Spyro this morning :) I was holding out a roach on my feeding tongs, waiting for him to open his mouth so I could place it in there, when his little tongue shot out and he ate it on his own! He then ate four or five more roaches on his own! I think it's a good sign that he's eating more voluntarily. I'm going back now to see if he'll eat the hornworm treats I bought him!!!! :blob5: :D

Oh, that's great. Must have been awesome to see him enjoying the roaches so much. Did he eat any of the hornworm treats?

So glad you're seeing some improvements.

That's great ! I think that it was actually the Metacam that caused him to exhibit the worst symptoms that you mentioned in the health forum. It seems that he's doing better since you stopped giving it to him.

Yes, he does seem a little perkier to me!!! I did find him on his side today, but he was not on his back at all. I do think the Metacam caused the worst of it, and hopefully he is even better tomorrow!! I am going to give him a bath and see how he does with that.

Hello,

That is terrific news for him! :D
So he is starting to eat on his own a little bit now? That is a great sign he is feeling better, finally.
It may take a little bit of time for a full recovery but it sounds like he is getting better. Did he enjoy his bath?

Keep us posted on him.

Well, I did not get around to bathing little Spyro today! I was busy with some unexpected school work and some errands I had to run. I also read that beardies cannot breathe while on their backs (can anyone confirm this?) so I brought him with me everywhere today because I was afraid he would get flipped over and I would not be there to help him!! He seemed to enjoy it though, he spent some time in the sun! He is still walking a little strange, but seems a bit better. He is also still 'gaping' for air regularly. What I am trying to figure out is the being flipped on his back thing- it was strange that he didn't try to right himself at all. I could not put my other beardies on their backs if I tried, let alone get them to stay like that. Is it possible his sense of balance has been messed with?

I can't answer the balance question, but it is true that because they lack a diaphragm they cannot breathe on their backs. I've taken my little flipper girl everywhere with me (including to bed) for 3 years, except when I have a sitter. I have a duplicate set-up for her at school. If I had worked almost anywhere else, she would have crossed over long ago.

Hello,

How is Spyro doing?
It isn't recommended to turn them on their backs, because they can't breathe very well.
I hope his balance has not gotten disrupted any.
Is he eating more now?
They usually do enjoy being outside in the sunshine most of the time. You have to watch for large birds of prey!

Esther19- That in fortunate that you can bring her with you! I hope Spyro gets better soon so I don't have to worry about that, but fortunately I do school from home so I can keep a close eye.

Tracie- Yes, he really seemed to enjoy the sun, and he always keeps a close eye on the sky

He has eaten again today, and as soon as I finish cleaning my house it is bath time- for reals this time! He has never really enjoyed getting his baths very much but I'll see how he does.

Hi P.K. As for your specific question about to him flipping over, it seems to have happened after you gave him the meds, like a bad reaction to the Metacam. As you read the side effects can be loss of balance and loss of body control....that symptom will probably and hopefully just disappear since you discontinued the Metacam. It's good to hear that he seems to be doing better. :)

Yep, I will keep an eye!! I sure hope it was related to the Metacam at least. Thanks everybody!! I appreciate all the support through this. Beardedragon.org is in my experience the most friendly reptile forum on the internet! :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
