Just out of curiosity, why the antibiotic ?
You will want to get a probiotic like Soy Yogurt, to help with the good tummy bacteria that antibiotics can disrupt.
Sounds like everything else is in order !
Still pulling for you and the baby ( okay, 2 y/o baby ;))
Janie !

I'm not sure; we'll ask him when we pick him up.

We just picked him from the vet.
The doctor told us that Spike was dehydrated & he has a upper respiratory & eye infection. (@ zebraflavencs: That's what the antibiotics were for, the infections.)
He told us to tube feed him with baby food (chicken) which is watered down by pedialyte & mix the antibiotics in that.
He showed me how to tube feed him; he said to do it 4 times a day & his antibiotics one time a day.
He said that when Spike starts eating on his own, we can stop with the tube.
I'm nervous about putting a tube down his throat, though.
Never done it before & didn't like how Spike was moving when the doctor did it...
Again, I thank you all. :p

@ beardie osk: He's gotten fatter & all, but there's still no sign of those fat pad things. He's one of the few who doesn't have them?

Oh, a respiratory infection, yes that would make sense ! How is he doing ?
How are you doing ! Pm one of the moderators for advice on tube feeding, to reassure yourself !

I'm glad he's doing better! You might want to double check with the vet to make sure what you're feeding him has probiotics which will put back the good digestive bacteria that are killed by antibiotics.

Ugh! They look like they're in so much pain when you tube feed them!
I shook too much, so I had to have my mother do it.

Hello,

Good grief, you are tube feeding him? That is not fun for them. How far down did she put the tube, past the glottis, correct?
I hope he is starting to feel better now. The meds, how long will he be on them for?
The respiratory infections are fairly easy to treat, if you catch them early.
Let us know how he is doing.

Yes, she did it as far as the doctor had said.
We're doing it again now... Eeehhh...

Oh my gosh poor little guy! I'm rooting for him! I also wanted to say thank you to -you- for being such a great person and doing the right research to help your beardie through this tough time! I read about the advice Petco gave you and I'm glad your listening to other suggestions. It's so great to see something like that when other people absolutely refuse advice even from someone who's taken good care of beardies for years. So kudos!

Please keep us updated! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping your little guy makes it through! :blob5:

Stay strong, my friend ! I know how hard this is for you and your family, but in time, with the meds and probiotics your dragon will be right back in the thick of things !
Hugs and Love for all of you !

Hi there,
Oh I'm so sorry you have to tube feed him, that's really tough for both of you.............so I'm sure the vet was careful in showing you how to do it, right? If your not sure, you can always go back and feed him in from of your vet so he can see your technic and give pointers. Sometimes when we watch someone doing a proceedure we may not get enough courage to do it when we're alone, it's better to do the feed with the experienced person standing by...........it gives confidence and may get rid of the gitters when your finally on your own.

I feel your pain, I had to tube feed one of my boys his meds the same way, it's impossible to go into the lungs with the syringe, because the airway is not big enough, but you have to go far enough to pass the glottis, as mentioned, so they don't aspirate. Am I confusing you? I don't mean to, so I'll stop................. Keep us posted.

It's true, your beardie may never have the head fat pads like you mentioned, some don't.

We're all rooting for you and your baby,
Bugs and hugs,

We just got done feeding him & he's acting weird.
He's standing as high as he can on his front legs & keeps puffing out his throat.
I think he's going to vomit.
He hasn't gone to the bathroom since we picked him up from the vet.
Is there a way to make him go without feeding him?
We don't want to fill him with any more food if he can't go to the bathroom...

Here's a couple pictures of him standing: http://s721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/L-and-N-Photography/Spike/?action=view&current=DSC08135.jpg
His belly puffed up when we put him in the water: http://s721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/L-and-N-Photography/Spike/?action=view&current=DSC08134.jpg

Is there something wrong? Or it normal/he's just irritated with us? :?

He was openning his mouth...
He just keeps his head lifted up... Is he going to vomit? Having problems breathing?
I'm starting to freak out now...
We don't know if we should keep feeding him.
We're giving him as much water as we can & letting him soak in warm water.
He leans against the glass of the tank so he doesn't have to hold his head up.
And he's still not going to the bathroom.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
