Just wondering if you have these in America?

A DWA license is a license for dangerous wild animals. I know alot of countries have different rules and here in the UK you need one to keep various venomous snakes, caimans, crocs, gators etc etc. I think they are also needed for mammals too.

Also if you have one (mainly in UK) do you think they are worth it? I understand the fact of getting a beautiful collection but some people seem to still hold some of these animals 'illegally' without a license.

Just a random post since its quater past two in the morning, I can't sleep and I've been looking at DWA animals on RFUK for a couple of hours lol..

Hi m8,
My view on any licience is what is the motive behind it, what do you get for your money?

I believe in the UK we should have some form of licience but to get one will entail a check by the RSPCA that you have the right and secure condition's and that you as an owner get a resource if you require any help in caring for that animal or require any information.

I really dislike it when we just tax something and the money goes straight into the Gordon Brown nuclear wine festival.

I remember when we used to have them for Dog's and i was happy to get one, but now any man and his wallet can get a dog without much regard to it's wealthfare.

In conclusion, if certain conditions and support are met and it helps the owner and animal live a happy life, then sure thing.

Yeah I agree about the checks, anyone could probably get one and the animal could just be mistreated.

That made me laugh hahaha, but that is too true.

Do you have one or do you know anybody with one?

I knew someone who had a crocodile baby which he was looking after at his home for Chester Zoo, who at the time did not have crocodile's so i think they were given it from someone who could not look after it corrently. Anyway he had to get one for that. Then within afew week's or so it was gone. I also think he had some deadly snakes too at the time.

I'm from the U.S. and I've never heard of a DWA license...

A DWA license is for dangerous wild animals, it basically lets you keep certain venomous snakes, caimans etc .. not sure about all the things you can keep but here in the UK it lets you keep dangerous animals.

Ahh right, I'm so jealous haha. I would love to own a dwarf caiman but I'm not ready for something like that at all. How come he had to look after it?

He worked for Chester Zoo, in reptiles and bird's, i don't talk to him much apart from when fishing match is due up, (he likes his match fishing, as do aye).

I'm a parrot man myself, got plenty of rescues of African Grey's and now Senegal's, and now turning my hand to a lovely bearded Dragon called Jodie, who atm is having a stress free ride unlike me who is worrying about every solid thing lol

I'm not sure about reptiles here in the US, but I do have a friend with an African Serval cat, and I know she needs a license for it. My understanding is that the laws vary by state here, some places are much more strict than others. We also have many people here who are keeping their pets illegally. I agree that licenses are fine as long as they are used to protect the animals' best interests.

With Chester Zoo then do they take the animals home for better care when rejected by mothers if their babies? I'd love to do that!

I'd love a parrot but they scare me to death, they seem really aggressive! Can't beat a bearded dragon though I must say

Yeah people keeping pets illegally tbh I don't see any point in it. I don't think licenses should be give out unless they know the person who will be receiving the animal can take proper care of it an meet all the requirements.

Was the Serval Cat tame?

As far as i was aware the Zoo at the time did not have the proper equipment but the chap did at home, so that's why it was in the best interest of the animail. I know now they have them in the zoo as a main feature.

Oh, last time I went to Chester Zoo which was earlier this year I think, the Croc enclosure was closed off. You could just about see one but you couldn't have a look in the glass.. not sure what they was doing in there but I was devastated!

I think in the state of California, you cannot buy, sell or "own" rattlesnakes. but im not sure because people keep them to use for rattle snake training [training for dogs] and there was a table full of them at the reptile show in june, but those were not for sale, only to educate. looks like i have some reading to do...... :book:

I guess you could consider her tame, I mean she loves her owner but she hisses and growls at everyone else and she is a VERY intimidating cat. I certainly wouldn't want one!

How do they train dogs with them? Sounds like the UK is one of the only places with these licenses then

Yes she is definitely big, I would say she is easily 45-50 pounds and very long and tall! Here is an older pic of her, she is younger here:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
