Hey there, One of my friends that owns a dragon suggested that I buy Dubia Cockroachs, They are insanely easy to breed and are pack full of goodies.

Is this correct? If so, Has anyone tried this?

Yes Dubia roaches are a great staple.

Might want to check out the "Feeders" forum further down....

Yes they are very easy to breed. I bought my first colony from lance last August and I now have probally 5 thousand roaches now. Just heat and feed them its that easy. :)

does anyone have a link on the best tutorial for this? I also want to start breeding them so I'm not buying 30$ worth at least every month. I have an extra 10 gallon tank which i think is the right size I'm just unsure about setting it up, what to do , how to heat, etc... it seems like i loose dubias daily i would like to see them multiply :)

I would love to only pay $30 a month for dubias. Harley is a monster and goes through about 900 a month which equals about $80 a month.

I got my colony up and running now but it was rough since out of the 40 females, 15 males, 100 large nymphs and 500 mixed nymphs, I lost like half due to something I have no idea about. They were in rough shape when I got them and so im figuring a combination of overheat, lack of food, rough handling, old age for females and males or just overall rough life led to about half of em dying. So I just chalked it up as a learning experience and now will only buy large nymphs from the guys I have been using for my feeders since the feeders are all very well packed and fat and happy when I get em and out of about 3000 roaches, I have not received a dead one yet. Only catch is this guy doesn't sell any females or males, just nymphs. So I'll just order a couple hundred large nymphs to bolster what I got.

Anyone ever use Dubi Deli? I'm debating giving them a try since they got large quantities(1000+) at pretty good prices. I've heard they are pretty good but would as much input as I can find. Anyways, from what I've learned, don't buy adult females and males since they are expensive and you have no idea about the age. Buy large nymphs and go from there. It will take longer but at least you know how old your adults will be and it will be cheaper.

I politely disagree. :D If you bought 100 nymphs, how many are male and how many are female? Might be 70 females and 30 males, might be 100 males. You just don't know! You'll also notice, after having a colony for awhile, it seems like 80% of nymphs become male and 20% become female. I originally bought about 45 females from two different sources, and I think the first 90 days maybe 3 females died. Now 9 months later I can't feed off the males fast enough.

Problem is most of the places i'm seeing selling females are selling for $2+ each and don't even give an age. So basically they easily just sell off old breeders. Now I guess if you know someone who is selling adult females for $1 or cheaper each, then its prolly worth it but again, everywhere I've checked, either they aren't or don't have females for sale or they want $2+ each and again don't state whether they are fresh females or culled old breeding stock. And true you are rolling the dice on nymphs but you can pick up around 70ish nymphs before the last molt for like $20. Of course this method takes longer to build a colony but I guess that's half the reason dubia colonies are so precious to people. :) Last order of 50 large nymphs I got I had prolly 15-20 females and around 30 males and it was $21 so not too bad. About $1 per female.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
