driftwood sterilization methods

I found a really kewl piece of driftwood..Its dirty and looks very old...Can it be cleaned and safely used? Thank you for any information..

Yes, brush + knock off all the dirt that you can, then soak it in bleach water + give it a scrub. Rinse very well with hot water, then after it dries for a bit pop it in the oven [ if it fits ] for an hour at 250F.
