ok thanks, I will pm her. spine curvature sounds pretty nasty.

They have been eating, just have not seen it. I chop up some greens for them and put them in the cage floor and I notice some of its been eaten, just not all of it as I had been hoping. The pinheads arrive today, so maybe that will spark their appetites.

I wonder if maybe that baby has some inner ear problem caused by the fall out of the incubator or something...in other animals ear infections, etc will cause head tilts. It may also just be his spine, but if you saw him before the incident and didnt notice a problem, it may be an injury...so hopefully it will heal!
Congrats, my first clutch is due in a week or two...so I cant wait...seeing your posts have made me even more antsy!!! I cant stop staring at the eggs...as if something is going to happen...
Good luck, make sure to post pics as they grow!!

I wish I knew if he was fine before! but they look so much alike its hard to tell. the ear issue does make sense, because that one ear is always pointed down. but I think it is a spinal issue because of how twisted his back seems to be.

Hello,

Oh gosh, that is too bad. It was an accident him getting out. He is not the egg that was dropped, is he? I was just wondering.
Well, seeing that all of the rest of the clan is normal, then it doesn't appear to be a birth defect. He could have hurt himself underneath the couch, definitely. He was not curved like that before he escaped, correct?

What I think you need to do now, unfortunately, is to separate him from the rest just so they do not pick on him & he gets enough food, etc. This will allow you to watch him more closely also. Can he hold his head up normally, or is it always off to the side that you can tell right now? Does he appear to be in any pain that you can tell?

The main things that are the most important to consider are whether or not the curvature will affect his ability to eat properly & go to the bathroom, & be fairly mobile. They are extremely hardy & very resilient & can overcome physical challenges amazingly well. So, if he can have a decent quality of life, I would say he would be one for you to hold onto as a special family member.
If it is an injury, then, it is possible that it could straighten up in time but if something is broken, it needs to be attended to.

Thank you tracie! to answer a few questions you had,

There were no babies that had any defects, so I am probably correct, and as you are too, that the injury had to happen when he got out and got under the couch. I am not for sure if he was the one that was dropped in the egg, but I am starting to believe he may be the one. He cant hold his head up on his own will it seems, and he hardly opens his eyes. He just pretty much lays there. I have soaked him in water, and didnt see him drink at all. As far as pain, I am not really sure. I dont see him breathing heavily, but I do notice he is usually laying on his left arm, the side his head pulls to.

I know, I feel so bad for him. I think best thing I can do is just keep him. I had planned on keeping one of the hatchlings anyways, and he has the best coloring out of all them so far.

The way hes acting is worrying me...im afraid he might not make it if hes not checked out...i really hope he gets better...have you tried babyfood dropped onto his nose or in his mouth? that may help give him a little energy

Poor little guy. I just want to cry  I really hope he isn't in any pain.

Have you separated him yet? Please do as much as you can of Tracie's advice. It would be great if this little guy can prevail.

well as of last night, all 22 of spyra's (her name) very first clutch EVER, hatched successfully. Lefty, as I refer to the one with the strange issue, has been seperated, I have been keeping him in a special place in the incubator, hoping the constant heat may help him. He has improved a little, but not much. I managed to get him to eat one pinhead, but he wouldnt eat anymore after that. Going to get him a 10 gallon tomorrow for him.

well some sad news, "lefty" my hatchling that had the strange issue passed yesterday afternoon. Was especially sad for me, since he is the first beardie that I have had the pleasure of owning die on me. But thankfully he is survived by 19 brothers and sisters.

I am so very sorry to hear about Lefty. I was really hoping he would pull through.

He's in a good place though, with a bunch of wonderful beardies to welcome him.

It is good to hear that all of the others are doing well. I take it they are finally eating?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
