Can beardies tell gender?

I was wondering... Can beardies tell the gender of another beardie just by looking at them? Do they know by smell? When my male sees my female does he even know shes a girl?

Can't say for sure, but I'd put money on it. If not imedietly after a little tongue flicking they'd pick up the pheromones.

Interesting! Do you suppose they can still detect the pheromones even with one in a tank?

I've only had one dragon at a time but read enough posts about dragons who get all tough (head bobbing and such) just being in the room with each other (not able to see each other) to think they have a pretty good idea what's up.

They have a Jacobson's organ like snakes do, just not as developed. I often wonder what they can "smell" that we have no idea about. Not sure what sort of sensitivity or range they have though.

I have 4 males and 1 female. One of my males noticed right away when I brought the female into the house (she was a rescue). He has never been out with her but he knows she is here.
