Hello, Miss CJ, glad to see you had a good time at the park today. I haven't been outside, but as I have my own room and have a ramp that takes me up to the window, I can see outside until it's sleep time. I really enjoy your pictures, you are enjoying your trips to the park very much! Good for you. I'm off for a nap soon, I find I'm getting very sleepy by mid afternoon, but Mom told me there were more pictures, so I had a good time watching them. You're so beautiful, I'm always glad to be able to enjoy seeing you. Mom's told me about the city you live in, Calgary, which has long winters. We live in New Westminster, Mom says we live close to Vancouver and our winters aren't as long or as cold as yours. We're having nice weather during the day, but at night it's getting cooler and cooler, nice weather to sleep in.
Talk to you soon, Miss CJ,
Your friend
Lonzo

I got some good news and some bad news from the vet last night. The good news is that he finally got ahold of the specialist to talk to her about Campbell Jane. It turns out that the mystery bacteria is nothing to worry about. Yay! The bad news is that the entamoeba is much, much worse than previously thought. Although we've treated her for it, it doesn't appear to have worked completely. The specialist is extremely concerned about Cam, and also about me since apparently some types of entamoeba are zoonotic! (They can be passed to humans.) Not only does it cause GI issues, but it can also cause problems in the brain. So, both she and I get to have a bunch of tests done on us now. Won't that be fun. I'm not really worried about myself because I feel OK, but I'm really worried about CJ. I hope that with these tests and the proper treatment, she can get better and start eating and pooping on her own. I actually dreamed last night that she pooped on her own, and I was ECSTATIC! Until I woke up, of course.

Entamoeb is zoonotic?! Oh my lord! Did the vet explain to you how it could be passed to humans?
What are they going to do for Cam if the previous med wasn't working for her? How had she been acting/eating?

The poor girl had been through so much. Hate to hear that she's still not well.

I hope your dream will come true. That would be so wonderful if she'd poop all on her own.

Hugs to you both.

First we have to send away a poop sample to a lab in Colorado to find out what kind of entamoeba it is. Then we'll know if it is one of the kinds that can be transmitted to humans, and also the best way to treat it. From what I've read, treatment is generally long and fairly difficult. I hope my girl can get better!

Hi Sandi, I'll be holding my breath to hopefully hear that it's not spreadable and that you and CJ will be ok during the medication time. All our prayers are with you, my whole zoo, they're very huggable, so they all send hugs, too. So, Miss CJ, lots of courage in the days to come, here's Lonzo:

I had Mom go back through your pictures and having never seen the beginning of this thread I didn't realize how long a road you've come, my sweet Miss CJ. I've been sleeping alot lately, but I'm keeping track of you to make sure you're all right. I'd come visit you, Miss CJ, if we didn't live such a distance away. I'll have you in my heart while you're going through this trying time...my best wishes are in your quick recovery. You are such a beautiful lady, I've enjoyed your voyage to better health through the love of your mom, so big hugs to both of you, your mom is a wonderful woman, so you're all set with all of us thinking of you and praying for better health once this last bacteria is killed. My thoughts and heart are with you, I'll keep checking with you on how you are feeling.

Your friend,
Lonzo

Thank you, everyone. Although she has a tummy full of little beasties, she seems to be feeling pretty good. She's very active during the day, especially when I let her run around on the floor. She goes everywhere, and she goes FAST! I have to keep a close eye on this one. She also likes to climb all over me and the cat when we're on the couch together. She's eating well and her colours are beautiful. I hope this means that she's not feeling the ill effects of the entamoeba too badly. I'll be taking her in on Wednesday or Thursday so the vet can get a nice fresh poop sample to send away for analysis and then we'll go from there.

Of course the animals are all plotting against me. While this is going on with Cam, it turns out that Buster (cat) needs a dental and Phoebe (hedgehog) needs to be spayed! Yikes! Thank goodness Buster is insured so at least that expense is covered. Phoebe's spay will be around $300 so that's not too bad. I have some stat holiday hours coming up - a full shift at triple time, so that will cover the spay, the deductible on Buster's insurance, and Cam's tests. Whew!

Wow, Sandi, won't you be glad to get all this vet stuff done. Thanksgiving up here is next weekend, so Monday's the day you work, good for you! I'll be so glad to hear good news after the testing is done, it's great that you such a wonderful vet. He seems to really know beardies. We're lucky that way, too, our vet is good with dragons, too.

So big hugs to all of you that everything goes smoothly, isn't it time. It's so good to hear that Miss Cj is so active and eating well, that's great news. There's nothing seriously wrong if she's so active and her colours are wonderful in the pics I've seen. Thanks Sandi, for sharing, I look forward to your posts.

Take care,
Deborah

Lonzo is sleeping, but I always give him an update when he's awake.

What would happen if Phoebe doesn't get spayed?? Do they go through "in heat" phases like dogs??

No, the problem is that hedgies are extremely prone to reproductive system cancers as they get older. By spaying her while she's young, we give her a much better chance of living out her full life span without cancer. Ideally I should have had her spayed when she was about six months old, but I didn't know that then. She's coming up on two years old, so she's still young enough to benefit from the surgery without having all the age related risks that go with it. Poor Phoebs... she'll never forgive me!

I got Buster's blood drawn at the vet today in preparation for his upcoming dental. He'll probably need at least one tooth extracted. The people at the vet clinic just love him. The tech came out and raved to me about how good he was. I guess he just sat there and let them take blood - no hissing or biting or scratching. He's always been really good at the vet but I guess some cats are not quite as relaxed as he is! I scheduled his dental for three weeks from today, so assuming that his blood work shows no abnormalities, he'll be getting his teeth cleaned then. He's such a good boy. Literally ten seconds after getting out of the carrier at home, he was rolling around on the floor just being his normal self. Nothing stresses him out, thank goodness!

I'm sorry to have to tell you all that Campbell Jane passed away tonight. While I was out of the house, she vomited and then aspirated some of it into her lungs. I rushed her to the clinic, and although she still had a heartbeat when we got there, they weren't able to bring her back. The vets worked on her for over an hour but it was just too late. I'm sorry, I can't write any more right now.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
