Calliope *My New Baby Bruver

On Wednesday, my two new babies, a little boy and a little girl, will be arriving from Annapolis Bearded Dragons. Finally!!! After suffering through the posts of when they hatched, to seeing the shed pictures, and going through the "selection" process, the wait is almost over

I am going to start this post for them and I will change the title to reflect their names once they arrive. And YES, they do already have names, however I am chosing not to disclose them until their official introductions into this wonderful bd.org family. :mrgreen:

I will start out though by sharing their new homes with everyone, now that they are complete. We are currently burning in the new MVB's so they should be ready to go by Wednesday morning.

Oh no, sorry I meant going by those dosages listed above (3-4 ml per 100 grams) that he would only be eating .48 ml each day and that seems like way too little for a growing baby. I would honestly probably just feed him what he wants to eat, but I skipped the baby phase with my little one because I wanted my first dragon to be a little "easier". Sorry for the confusion .

Thanks to everyone for posting all of those links to other great threads. I have been reading through them over the last couple of days and they are not only entertaining but very informative. Like I said before I am the mom to my first baby dragon. He's only 8 weeks old and I just got him on Saturday. I have been having some of the same problems as you guys...not being able to get him to eat enough. Or what I think is enough. It's nice to know a lot of people have the same problems and I'm not just a dummy newbie that is doing something wrong I have a thread for Elliott in the introductions section titled "New Dragon Mom" if anyone wants to check it out. I have a few pics and plan on keeping it updated as much as I can on mine and Elliott's little adventure together.

So Hades has pretty much just stopped functioning. He is super lethargic, sits or lays down with his eyes closed and I couldn't hardly get him to eat anything. We put him on the scale and he has lost 2 grams. I think when you only weigh 12 grams, 2 is a lot.

Not sure what do at this point. Maybe it's his light, maybe he's being stubborn... I'm at a loss

it could just be hard for him to get used to his new tank. i would suggest maybe a smaller tank of some sort. when a new beardie goes into a huge tank its really hard for them to feel at home, they can almost get lost in a sense. maybe a tank divider or something. or maybe hes just getting ready for a shed. whatever is goin through his little mind i hope he realizes that hes got it made at your place

Thanks... I wish it were as easy as all that. He's been in this enclosure for almost a month now and there was a period of time (even though it was short) that he was eating. But so much has happened and it seems that ever since his original MVB blew, he hasn't been right.

He made it through he night (I have to admit I was afraid he wouldn't) and I got up and went to the store to get more babyfood and Pedialyte. When I got home, I put him in a bath to warm him up and he is definitely dehydrated because he drank water like nobody's business. I'm not sure how he got that way, all of our dragons get baths daily. I'm sure not eating has something to do with it. The other possibilty is maybe the bulb we had in his viv was too much for him. So we switched out his T-Rex bulb for Dude's 160w Powersun (we bought it BEFORE all of the issues came up) and we're starting out with a 50w basking bulbs to supplement the heat.

While he was bathing, I mixed up his babyfood slurry and tried to get him to eat. He just won't eat. Not even the babyfood now.

Is it because he's dehydrated? Is he too weak to eat? How is he supposed to get better if he won't eat?

Robin....I know I was asking Sandy this same question, but do you think the 160W is too powerful for the viv? What size did you say the viv was? Are you checking temps throughout the day? I know with my 160W Mega...the temps fluctuate throughout the day depending on the temps outside.
I am baffled at why you are having problems with Hades. I wonder if you and Sandy need to downsize to 100W mvb's. I just don't know what else to think!

You could also try the 60w Megaray. It's UV only - no heat - so you have to supplement with a regular bulb for heat. I find it's a bit easier to control the temps with the 60w.

Yes, Gina, we are all worried. I kept checking this thread late last evening and earlier this am to see if there were any updates. I'm glad Hades made it through the night. I pray and hope he makes it and starts to do better. I wonder what's really wrong that he's not eating much.

You were so small and we wanted you to eat. But I know that whatever was keeping you from eating is not bothering you anymore. Be happy over the Rainbow Bridge my little man. Listen to all of the others who are there waiting to guide you. And if you happen to see Bogey, please tell him that his mommy and Katherine miss him so very much.

We will miss you. You even made Daddy cry. He held you and stroked your back and talked to you. He didn't want to put you down. I hope that you heard all of the loving things he said to you. I'm sure you did.
