Calcifer the Uro - Happy colors!

Calcifer is a red Saharan. Saharans can be yellow but calcifer is a great red color

I love Calcifers color, as well as mine. Crazy how brightly colored they are. Oh before I forget check out my new baby guy Ifrit..

Looking through this thread I realized I have no pictures of Calcifer's belly. :shock: His belly is one of the most beautiful parts on his body. It is always a vibrant red with patterning. I am going to make sure to get a couple good belly shots to show off the epicness of Calcifer's belly.

One other thing I have noticed in your pictures is that there is sunflower seeds in his substrate, I have heard from everywhere that they shouldn't have them. Have you heard this too or? Also after looking at Calcifer again I agree mine is Saharan but, his belly is plain lol man he got jipped!

Yes I have read about the sunflower seeds.

The first bag of bird seed I had was a mix which included some sunflower seeds in them. It was a pain in the butt to take out (I admit I was lazy :mrgreen: ) but I took out a good majority.

If I took pictures of my current substrate, you wouldn't see any sunflower seeds but its not because I think they are dangerous, its just because they are kind of an inconvenience.

He was housed with the sunflower seeds for about 3 months or so and he never ever even looked at one as food. And yes I checked his poo and never saw any sunflower shells.

Calcifer eats a lot of the seeds. I will often hear a crunch when he is hiding in his little cave (home made of food, thats the life) and his poo is always filled with seeds. ..........Which kinda leads me to wonder if he is even digesting them since they are passing through and still recognizable as a seed.

Have you noticed seeds in Gualams poo?

Yeah I see seeds in there all the time, they eat them but they also make a good roughage for when they are digesting their food, it helps them break down the plant matter, same reason cows eat rocks. LOL

I think calcifer is finally done with brumation! He has been sleeping for what seems like a year. He is finally out of his little hide and is basking more often, which I am going to assume means that he is ready to wake up! :mrgreen: .

I will be getting some new pictures up of him pretty soon.
He has hardly ate anything, and I really do mean he ate virtually nothing. It looks like he has lost no weight whatsoever. His belly is still nice and full looking and he has a ton of energy somehow...

Gonna go make him a nice salad

I believe Gaulam to be in brumation also. He does still venture out from time to time but, almost always in his hide.

Wow when I looked at the first page I thought that Calcifer was some strange mutant bearded dragon for a moment :shock:

HAHA Reptilemaster I thought the same thing! I'm still trying to figure out what a Uro is but I can see that they are related to the bd.

Related in the sense that they are both reptiles and come from the desert

Uros like much hotter temperatures and are herbivores. Even though some people do feed them a worm or two occasionally.

More pics will be up next weekend. I just redid Calcifers tank and im waiting tell I can use my moms camera this weekend.
