you can breed them but i hope you have a good bit of experience with dragons as they will be hard to raise for the first few weeks. The hypotrans dragons have high death rates out the gate and can be very hard eaters at first. So it will take time and patience to get them going. good luck.

Hi,

a bit expirience in keeping, but not so much in raising dragons. If you have some helpful tips for me, would be great.

My wife has enough time to invest in the little dragons, because she is fulltime at home :D .

i dont have any handson experience with them and those that successful pop clutches of highend dragons tend to be tight lipped about it. sorry that i cant be of more help. Just may take a lot of time and patience.

if this is your 1st time breeding stick with less volitile stock.
If your doing this for the money your arent gonna see a profit for 2 to 3 years anyway.
Start with something that will yield color or size.

This info Tom gave is great. Outcross the lines to add strength to them. You are dealing with dragons that carry numerous "genetic defects" in their system. The hypo trait, the translucent trait, and the leatherback trait are all genetic defects that have been purposely bred to make multiples. When you breed multiple genetic defects together you get many babies that the eggs wont be viable or they will die not long after hatching. If you are prepared to deal with the ethical decisions behind having animals that are born missing body parts or eyes or any number of other genetic defects that you have to humainly euthanize due to these issues than be my guest. But honestly i highly suggest against it for your first breeding.

OK, OK, i understand. Sorry for my terrible english, but hopefully you understand me in the right way.

I have bought my three dragons and i think you know, hypo trans leatherback are not the cheapest... so my target was to held this "defects", because i see my dragon, and she is doing very well, without any diseases (so far). I don't want any disorders of bodyparts or something else ... i have heard about that and so i posted my question here. You can read a lot, you can hear a lot, you get a lot of opinions - but at last you have dicide it for your self - and on that way i get a lot of information to decide for the right way.

But first some pictures of my dragons:

My smallest lady from september 09:

My other two Dragons have only the hypo trait:

my middle hypo leucist lady from august 09:

my hypo sunburst male from June 09:

In march i will get an male hypo translucent.

So it could be an option for me to breed first:

Hypo sunburst x hypo trans leatherback
Hypo translucent male x hypo leucist female

Is that better?

My honest opinion for your first breeding would be to breed the hypo leuci female to your hypo sunburst male. The hypo line produces enough issues of its own sometimes so work through that first. Then breed the trans or the leather lines and work your way through that built up on the knowledge you got from breeding the hypos. Just my opinion.

for hypos?

some (not all but some) have pretty bad appetite issues early on. Thats why I say deal with that first and see if you feel you are prepared to move to the next level (possible birth defects, which will not happen to all or even the majority, but will happen to part of your clutch).

Correct me if i am wrong.. But Travis from lair of dragons did this and got maybe 10 egg, Again correct me if i am wrong. 7 of those lived. From what I have heard most are doing fine, but a rather small clutch if you ask me. Imho I believe most people tend to see dollar signs when you look at an animal, and it becomes a get rich quick scheme sort of. People are losing sight of what this is really about. Genetic stability!! These are our pets first and foremost, and I look at anything that comes from my animals as part of the family, and would like for them to be as healthy as possible. I would never attempt such a feat. I think breeding the hypo trans with a quality het would produce healthy, genetically sound animals. But thats just my opinion. To each his own!

I have no idea what travis' numbers were but Compare that number that you think it was andcompare it to most healthy dragons that can and will produce 20-30 eggs with a 99% survival rate (from someone that knows what they are doing). I dont think its right nor fair to automatically jump to the conclusion of someone being in it "only for the money" just cause they invested in what they felt were nice animals and want to breed them. You have no idea what this persons motives are and neither do i. All we can do is give them advice as we see it and hope they make good decisions.

You are correct Brian.. And I may have been jumping to conclusions. I've just talked to a few people recently and they were all like what would i get more money breeding. And it has been on my mind every since. I apologize. To what ever you decide to do good luck!!! If you got a question I may answer, I will gladly do.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
